Chapter 149
Love
The lycan king, Leondre, walked in first. He wore a slate black tux and black shoes. His jet-black hair was a little tousled.
His aura was stronger than my father’s. It overwhelmed every corner of the room. The room fell silent for the second time tonight as they all bowed their heads in respect. It was even worse when their son, Prince Nicholas, came in after his Dad-a tall, handsome young man with the striking features of his father.
My strong inner lycan whimpered at their aura. If it could affect me like this, I could only imagine others,
Ellis and my father were the only two people that didn’t react badly to it. I was proud of my Ellis that he was so strong and could hold his own against these unmatched auras.
The room felt lighter when the Luna Queen appeared next to her firstborn son and her husband. She diluted their aura. Hers was calm and fresh. Like sunshine and pure white flowers. Everyone could breathe again. Queen Anaiah smiled fondly and walked over to us.
“Cali!” she hugged my mom first and then my brooding father. She and my father had a special friendship that pissed off my uncle, Leondre.
Love, look at you. You’re so beautiful. Congratulations!” Queen Anaiah hugged me tightly.
“Thank you, Aunty. You look stunning,” I complimented. She was bashful but accepted my praise. The king walked over, too. We all bowed to him. He kissed me on the cheek and congratulated me. He proceeded to greet
Ellis and CC.
“Your majesty, I didn’t know you were attending,” CC said.
“Love is my niece. Of course, we’d attend such an important function,” he answered. The king’s eyes flashed as he glared at Ellis. He was ready to tell him something but was stopped by my father,
“Don’t even attempt it, Leon. I tried to intimidate the young alpha, and they ganged up on me. It was unpleasant.”
We all laughed.
The two of them dragged Ellis to the bar. Probably to threaten him, but I wasn’t worried. It wasn’t that serious.
My mom and CC remained talking while Queen Anaiah mingled with the guests. Everyone wanted to pay their respect. She was people’s favorite Queen, after all. I understood why as I watched her across the room. She was beautifully composed, sweet, and just so lovely. She made everyone she interacted with delighted. She was a true lady, and it was fulfilling to watch.
Her smile was genuine and bright. She cared about her duty and radiated love from her.
Queen Anaiah represented so much in culture. She was a werewolf. No one expected the powerful lycan king to be mated to a werewolf. Yet she was. Queen Anaiah overcame all that was sent to overpower her. She had been through so much, yet remained strong and triumphed. She was an icon.
Her loving eyes met her husband’s, and she smiled, waving at him slightly. King Leondre gazed at her with great love and respect before returning to his conversation with Ellis and my father.
The introduction ceremony started. Ellis and I took center stage. All eyes turned to me.
He first swore fealty to me and his pack.

The ceremony was short. After I said my vows, everyone erupted in cheers. I looked at them with grace.
My father and mother had a proud smile on their face. My brother bowed slightly to him, and I sent him a kiss.
It was time to party. Everyone had a pleasant time. Ellis pulled me in his arms as we danced to the music. I felt his soft lips trail against my mark.
“You’re drunk,”
“Blame your father and uncle,” he slurred against my neck. I turned around and wrapped my hands around his shoulders. I opened my mouth to speak when, suddenly, the power went out. Unknown wolves jumped into the ballroom through the windows. The smell of rogues hit me, but there was something else. Vampires?
“Rogues!”
Ellis was sober now. Screams erupted, and the guests shifted to defend themselves.
“Love – ”
Go, I’ll be fine. I will help the guests safely leave,” I said, pushing him away. He wanted to stay to protect me, but he couldn’t do that.
“Go through that exit,
my hand.
lose” There was desperation in his eyes. I nodded to ease him. Reluctantly, he let go of
I helped a few women exit using the backdoor. My vision was so much better in the dark.
I went back inside after leading them out. I immediately noticed the vampires. They were so pale with red eyes. They were faster, too, and I could tell they were trained fighters, unlike the rogues. It was a good thing that there weren’t many.
The lycan Prince, Nicholas, was having fun fighting them. He was a great warrior, so much better for his age.
A scream resounded nearby, and I bolted at the sound. The three girls that were gossiping earlier were cornered by two large dirty rogues. They were shaking in fear, hurdling against each other. They couldn’t even shift to defend themselves. I grabbed the nearest chair and hit it against one of the rogues. It whimpered in pain. Its gaze turned to me, making me prey.
“Shift and defend yourselves!” I shouted at the girls. They nodded and shifted just as the other rogue lunged. The three of them fought it off.
The one I hit barred its disgusting long teeth and jumped at me. I dodged it. It hit against a pillar.
‘Should we shift?’ I asked.
Silence. There was no response from Vee. I couldn’t even feel her at all. What the fuck was happening?
‘Vee!’ I shouted in desperation. She was gone. I was panicking. I felt a sharp pain shoot through my back as I hit against the wall. The wolf growled at me. I grabbed the nearest piece of wood on the floor. I was ready to use it against him. I tried calling out for my lycan, but there was no response. I hated this. I felt weak. I didn’t want to be in this weak position.
