“Hired?” the words escaped my lips as dread filled me.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. Ellis tried to comfort me. He placed his hand on me comfortingly, but I shrugged away from him. I don’t want any comfort right now. I just found out my best friend was being paid to be by my side!
