Aiden POV

I have to admit, I did not see that coming. Kaia’s ex-husband is Paul. She handed me the keys to the kingdom in one sitting. She left no room for misunderstanding. Isaiah has a formidable mate as I do, and I think she is perfect for the female Beta role. Plus, when she took out Paul like a linebacker, I have to admit, I was impressed.

Yes, she being mated to my brother is perfect. I want to see her in real combat. I’m sure I will have the opportunity later. Right now, though, I need to see if I can get Ironclaw in my possession and bypass Alpha Paul altogether. I hate to create a potential rift with Alpha Max, but there is much more at stake

than his anger towards me.

Alpha Max sat in front of me, and Alpha Paul sat beside him. He is seething. He technically is not the alpha of Ironclaw. He is more like the caretaker now. If Edgar says that Alpha Max will act at the Alpha of Ironclaw for this discussion, then perhaps this will go smoother than expected.

After taking our seats, I see Paul cut a murderous glare at Kaia. That look tells me that, even if we secure Ironclaw, Kaia still faces a threat from Paul. I will need to tread lightly.

“Alpha Aiden, please explain to me why you are interested in obtaining Ironclaw?” Edgar asked.

He is aware of what I’m going to say. It’s not like I haven’t explained it before. I did when Heath came, wanting to battle my pack. I need to go to the granular now. I explained everything to him in great detail. I also came prepared with documents and references. I then told him that Thalia is gifted by the Moon, Goddess and speaks to her, and that we needed to merge with Ironclaw before the war.

Once I was done, I sat back quietly, letting Edgar absorb all the information laid out before him. Alpha Max looks contemplative, and Paul, well, he looks disinterested.

Edgar then looks at Paul, “Alpha Paul, you were made aware of all this information?”

He only nodded. Then Max spoke up, “Some of this information is new and wasn’t disclosed before. But the general information was explained previously.”

I answered Max’s point, “Some information was only just obtained and was after our initial discussions, Alpha Max. This was why I wanted to come back and continue talking to you about the merger.”

Edgar nodded and then asked me, “Is your intention to keep Ironclaw, Alpha Aiden?”

“Originally, no. My intention was to merge after the war and then return the pack. It would have been outlined in the agreement. However, Alpha Paul did not want to merge. Instead, he wanted me to turn over Blackstone in its entirety…permanently,” I replied.

Edgar’s eyes darkened, “I see. Alpha Max, did you agree with Alpha Paul?”

“No, councilman. I thought we should enter negotiations. After I became Alpha of Ironclaw, relations with Blackstone were always peaceful. Paul’s eyes snapped to Edgar. “You can’t do this to me, councilman! I haven’t broken any laws to be stripped of my title!”

Edgar narrowed his eyes, “I didn’t say I would strip you of your title. I said I would strip you of your position as Alpha of Ironclaw. You can retain your Alpha status, you just won’t have a pack to lead, Alpha

“No!” He responded, “I have built this pack up. I put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to raise it from

where it was before I took over.”

“You also lied and cheated, Alpha Paul. These are not qualities of a good Alpha, even if you are capable.”

“Honestly,” I said, “Councilman Edgar, to manage two packs, both of which are a good size, would be hard. I would need help. If the pack is shifted to Blackstone, then I would want to make my brother Isaiah the acting Alpha and his mate, Kaia, the acting Luna.”

Paul lost it when I mentioned Kaia would be Luna. He roared loudly and then yelled, “You cannot put that bitch as the Luna of my pack, councilman!”

Edgar stood up and pushed his oppressive aura on Paul, “You do not make decisions for the council. You are not fit to serve as Alpha of Ironclaw. You have proven your character quite clearly tonight, Alpha Paul. I suggest you sit still and keep quiet, or I will have your guards throw you in your own dungeons!” He replied with a snarl.

Max had just about had enough, because he got up and backhanded Paul. My mouth twitched to see this pompous asshole get smacked down by his own father like a little bitch. He’s a grown ass man and can’t act like one. Not my problem.

“Shut the fuck up, Paul. You have done nothing but disappoint me tonight. I’m embarrassed to call you my son,” Max said angrily. “If your mother were still alive, she would die from the disappointment. Now sit down and shut up.” 1

Thalia is squeezing my hand under the table. Clearly, all the yelling is affecting her. I think it could be the pregnancy and her hormones being everywhere. I push calm to her while we wait for Edgar to make a decision. I don’t know if it will be tonight or if we will have to wait, but I know this is the first time we have had a real chance to gain control of Ironclaw. This is a delicate balance, and I’m hoping the scale will tip in our favor.

I look over at Isaiah. He is still in his seat right now. He is holding in a lot of anger. Paul has screamed and insulted his mate, and she is holding him back. Kaia may be Isaiah’s troublemaker, but she is astute. I could see them both running this pack. If given to Blackstone, they should be the ranked leaders.

Edgar reviewed the paperwork one more time and then looked up, “After careful review, and with all the evidence put before me tonight, I think giving Ironclaw to Blackstone would be the wisest decision,” He said and then turned to me, “I need to finalize this with the other council members tomorrow, Alpha
