His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 13

After dinner, Conrad had excused himself to the study, claiming he had work to handle. He hadn't emerged even after Estelle’s dramatic scene, and Annika didn't for a second believe he was too engrossed in his work to hear the commotion. Estelle would never have dared to impersonate Serena without his silent approval.

Right, a man who hated her to the bone would never share a bed with her again.

Annika took off her coat and lay down, but sleep wouldn’t come. Tossing and turning, she was reluctant to take too much medication because of the baby, so she just stared at the ceiling, her mind adrift.

Her phone rang. It was Lana.

As soon as she answered, Lana’s frantic sobs filled the silent room. “Annika! Mr. Sargent… he was coughing up so much blood, and then he collapsed!”

Annika shot up from the bed, grabbing her coat as she rushed out the door.

By the time she reached the Sargent estate, an ambulance had already taken Marcus to the hospital. She raced there, her heart pounding.

After a thorough examination, the doctor spoke to her with grave solemnity. “Annika, your father has suffered a cerebral hemorrhage with two hundred milliliters of bleeding. It’s not advisable to move him, and I can’t say for certain when he’ll wake up.”

“Thank you, doctor.”

After paying the hospital fees, Annika returned to the room. Seeing her father on the bed, an oxygen mask over his face, looking as still as death, she was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions.

She dozed off in a chair by his bed, and when she woke, the sky was already beginning to lighten. Lana brought breakfast, but Annika could only manage a single bite before pushing it away.

“Annika,” Lana said through her tears, “Mr. Sargent collapsed because he was so worried about the company.”
