His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 14

Hank parked in front of the jewelry store. As he walked in, he passed a man in a white suit coming out.

The glittering display of jewels in the glass cases was dazzling, but Hank’s eyes were drawn to a diamond ring in the manager’s hand. His heart skipped a beat. It looked exactly like Mr. Beryl’s wedding ring.

Hank looked closer and confirmed it was the limited-edition Bulgari blue diamond ring. “How much is this?” he asked.

The manager, who was about to put the ring away, beamed when he heard the inquiry. “Excellent taste, sir. It’s fifteen million dollars, but if you’re serious, I can give you a better price. Between you and me,” he whispered conspiratorially, “someone just brought it in to sell.”

Hank felt like he’d been gut-punched. “Who sold it? Was it a woman named Annika?”

The manager pointed toward the entrance. “The man in the white suit.”

Hank looked up just in time to see the man in the white suit bending down to get into a car. It looked like Marcus Sargent’s assistant, Harvey.

When Hank called Conrad, he was sitting at his desk, reviewing documents. “Mr. Beryl, Mrs. Beryl sold her wedding ring.”

Conrad’s hand, holding the pen, froze. A drop of ink fell onto the document, smudging the text. “How much?”

“Twelve million dollars.”

Conrad stared blankly for a moment, then tugged irritably at his tie. So, that’s all he was worth to her. That heartless, gold-digging woman! He crumpled the ruined page in his fist.

He shook his head, trying to clear it. There was no point wasting any more energy on her. If they were getting a divorce, it needed to be a clean break. He wasn’t one to drag things out.

He hung up abruptly.

Hank stared at his phone, a dial tone buzzing in his ear. He felt lost. The manager asked if he still wanted to buy the ring, but without instructions, Hank couldn’t make that decision. He shook his head.
