His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 169

“I lost my baby. My hair’s gone, my legs are useless, and my mother is in prison. Are you satisfied now, Annika?”

Annika had no interest in asking why Serena was locked up here or how she had lost her baby. None of it had anything to do with her. So, she said, “If anything happens to Monroe, no one will be able to protect you.”

The implication was clear: ‘no one’ included Conrad.

“I didn’t bring the baby here,” Serena explained. “I found him at the door.”

But Annika didn’t believe a word of it.

Seeing Annika’s disbelief, Serena desperately tried to defend herself. She opened her mouth to speak, but her eyes caught sight of a figure behind Annika. Her expression shifted to one of shock, and she suddenly burst into heart-wrenching sobs. “Conrad, I finally get to see you! Why haven’t you come for me all this time?”

During her imprisonment, Serena had held onto so much hope. She had heard that Conrad was having people search for her, but she had no way to tell him that she was right here, in his own home, in Moon Hall.

When Conrad’s gaze fell upon her head, Serena let out a piercing scream. She shrieked like a madwoman, her hands flying up to cover her head, but her slender fingers could hardly conceal its baldness. Humiliated and tormented, she didn’t want the man she loved to see her in this wretched state.

Yet, she couldn’t stop it. Her heart filled with despair, she began banging her head against the wall, again and again, the dull thuds echoing in the courtyard.

Annika watched Serena’s performance with cold detachment. Finally, she turned, her icy gaze meeting Conrad’s. “I won’t stick around for the show, Conrad. Enjoy it.”

With that, Annika turned and left without a backward glance, clutching Monroe.

Conrad looked at the agonized Serena, then at the retreating figures of Annika and their son. He was about to follow Annika when a hand grabbed his leg.
