After bringing her son home, Annika noticed that the Beryl family was uncharacteristically quiet, and Conrad didn’t come to bother her again. Finally feeling at ease, she instructed Lana to keep a close eye on Monroe and headed to Sargent Group for work.
Annika had barely settled into her office when Wayne came in, grinning from ear to ear. “Ms. Sargent, Conrad is a strange man. A few days ago, he refused to see me, but today, he had Nolan call me to come sign the papers. He even promised that if we do a good job on this project, Beryl Group will give Sargent Group bigger and better deals in the future.”
Conrad's change of heart, she suspected, was a byproduct of their encounter last night, even though she had been the one to throw him out.
As far as Annika was concerned, everything Conrad did for her and for Sargent Group was ultimately for Monroe’s sake. After all, a business magnate like him would never let his own son go without.
And, of course, she knew Conrad looked down on Sargent Group and had no faith in her abilities.
Annika then asked Wayne a question that came out of the blue. “What do you think of Estelle as a person?”
The sudden shift in topic caught Wayne off guard for a second, but he quickly recovered. He thought for a moment before replying, “That woman is strange. Her moods are all over the place, and she’s ruthless.”
Annika raised an eyebrow. “How so?”
Wayne recalled, “One time, we were at the Celestial Club, and she bit a chunk of flesh out of a man who was getting handsy with her in front of everyone.”
