Conrad’s refusal to take a side was the final blow that shattered Annika’s heart. She didn’t spare him another glance, nor did she look back at Serena. The mere sight of that woman felt tainting.
“Since you also feel I’m the one who ruined your happiness, then do me the courtesy of letting me go. After today, I will never set foot in the Beryl Manor again. Just have the divorce papers sent to me when you’ve signed them.”
With that, Annika turned and walked out of the room without a shred of hesitation.
Conrad watched her decisive departure, his hands clenching into fists at his sides to stop himself from running after her.
“Conrad, Annika seems furious. She wants a divorce,” Serena said, her voice laced with concern.
Her words only fueled Conrad's frustration. He brushed her hand away. “You shouldn’t have lied to me, Serena,” he said, his tone complex.
“I didn’t mean to! How can you still blame me when I’m like this?”
Conrad glanced at the thin blanket covering her legs, his mind a chaotic mess.
...
As Annika reached the bottom of the stairs, she felt as if all her strength had been drained away. She couldn't take another step and had to lean against the railing to catch her breath.
Serena was back. Her marriage to Conrad was well and truly over!
Just now, during the confrontation, she thought she’d felt the baby move. But how could a baby move at only six weeks? Perhaps the baby knew it was about to lose its father and was acting out in protest.
“Annika!”
A clear, cheerful male voice called her name.
Annika turned to see a man walking towards her, his face alight with joy. “Hi, Tyler.”
