His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 32

Conrad crushed the cigarette butt under his heel and strode back toward the building, brushing past her. At the entrance, he paused and looked back at Annika, who had followed him. His brow furrowed in a deep line, his expression icy. “I hope you don’t regret this.”

Without another word, he disappeared into the registrar’s office. Annika practically had to jog to keep up with his long strides.

The clerk, who had just regained her composure, blushed again at the sight of Conrad. Her voice softened as she quickly handed them the forms to fill out.

Conrad filled out the paperwork and signed his name with meticulous care, never once glancing at Annika beside him. After taking the divorce papers from the clerk, he turned and walked out without a word.

Clutching her copy of the divorce papers, Annika left the building. It suddenly dawned on her that even though Conrad had agreed to give her several properties, she didn’t have the deeds. Even if she did, the titles wouldn't be in her name, meaning they weren’t legally hers and couldn’t be liquidated quickly.

She was about to call him when her phone buzzed with a notification. She opened her texts to see two messages from Conrad.

[Talk to Hank about the property transfer tomorrow.]

[You really couldn’t wait, could you? I guess a first love really is different.]

First love? Did he mean Tyler? What did their divorce have to do with him?

Then it clicked. Conrad thought she was in a rush to divorce him so she could be with Tyler.

Fine, she thought. Let him believe it.

She quickly typed a reply: [You’re right.]

After that, his side went silent.

Annika worked with Hank to transfer the properties, and her text thread with Conrad stayed stuck on that last message. She sold the houses as quickly as she could. After paying off the bank loans, she was left with five million. She used the money to pull some strings, and the detention center finally granted her a visit with her father, Marcus.
