His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 58

Tyler couldn't blame Mason for his reaction; he had truly dragged him into a terrible mess. A single misstep now, and Mason could face bankruptcy.

Annika bit her lip and lowered her eyes. She appeared calm, but inside, Tyler’s words had set off a tidal wave of emotion.

After a moment of silence, she said, “Tyler, if you’re afraid of Conrad, we don’t have to stay in contact.”

She knew that Tyler’s company was just starting out. As capable as he was, he was no match for a seasoned, ruthless powerhouse like Conrad, who could crush him as easily as an ant. Learning that Conrad was the one behind all of Tyler’s recent business troubles filled her with immense guilt.

She didn't want to drag him down any further, so she was offering him an out.

Tyler looked at her, his gaze deep. “Annika, I’m not afraid,” he said, his voice tight with frustration. “I’m furious. He divorced you. What right does he have to treat you… to treat us like this?”

He would endure any hardship for her, gladly. But he couldn't stand constantly being on the losing end of his battles with Conrad. It left him with a profound sense of failure.

Just then, Tyler’s assistant called again, reporting that a client from CentraPeak Ltd. was now demanding a price hike. Tyler swore under his breath and said to Annika, his voice strained, “I have to go. Something’s come up at the office.”

He answered after two rings.

Her lips parted. “Conrad, I’m back,” she said, her voice impossibly soft. “I made steak, medium-rare. When will you be home?”

On the other end of the line, Conrad, who had been working late at the Beryl Group office, felt his heart pound the moment he saw ‘Wifey’ flash on his screen. Hearing her gentle voice, his throat went dry. He loosened his tie, trying to suppress his excitement, and the words “I’m on my way” tumbled out before he could even think.

After he hung up, his fingers tightened around the phone as if savoring the moment. The memory of her soft touch lingered on his skin, and the image of her pale, supple body replayed in his mind. The exquisite pleasure of having her beneath him sent a surge of heat through his blood, and he was struck by an intense, overwhelming desire to touch her again.
