“I’m not going back. Tell Conrad that we’re finished.” Her voice came out raw, like her throat was on fire, every word a struggle. Then, she turned her face away, refusing to look at Hank, and focused intently on her work.

Hank returned empty-handed. Conrad, agitated, demanded, “Where is she?”

“Mr. Beryl…” Hank couldn’t bring himself to repeat Annika’s final words. He just said, “Maybe it’s best to let Mrs. Beryl stay at Sargent Group for a few days.”

An instant frost covered Conrad’s handsome face, a dangerous glint flashing in his narrow eyes. With a flare of his nostrils, he ordered, “Call that bastard Mason and tell him if he dares touch what’s mine, I’ll shrink his assets until he can’t even afford underwear.”
