"If Conrad doesn't want me, he sure as hell won't want you," Annika shot back with a cold smile.
"Annika, what are you doing here?" a voice called out.
Annika turned to see Estelle standing behind her, looking distinctly uncomfortable and moving as quietly as a ghost. Suddenly, Annika remembered seeing her flee the suite, followed moments later by this woman entering it. The timing was too perfect to be a coincidence. Why had Estelle been in Conrad's room, especially when he was clearly not in his right mind? Recalling what Estelle had said to her at the Sargent Group office yesterday, everything clicked into place. Annika smiled sweetly.
"Estelle, I bet you really want to kill me right now, don't you?"
"Wh-what are you talking about?" Estelle stammered, feigning confusion.
Annika knew her too well. Estelle always stuttered when she was nervous.
"I ruined your plan, didn't I?" Annika's smile widened. "Sorry about that, Estelle. It really wasn't on purpose. Your brother… just dragged me inside for some reason, and she," Annika gestured to the other woman, "ran off like she’d seen a ghost."
"That's bullshit!" the woman yelled, her face red with anger.
Annika just smiled, pulled out her phone, found 'Conrad' in her contacts, and tapped the screen.
Estelle grew more flustered. "Annika, I don't know what you're talking about. What does my brother dragging you into a room have to do with me?"
