His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 94

When Annika woke, she saw snowflakes drifting past the window, clinging to the frame. A warmth spread through her fingers, and she realized someone was holding her hand tightly. Her gaze shifted to the familiar face of the man beside her.

Hank had flecks of snow on his brow, and a chill still clung to him. Her slight movement startled him awake. "Annika, you're awake," he said, his eyes still hazy with sleep.

She nodded, remembering that she had fainted on the street while on the phone with him. But how had he gotten to Eirlandia so quickly? How long had she been unconscious?

As if reading her mind, Hank explained in a raspy voice, "I happened to be in the area for some business, so I came to find you."

It was a lie. In truth, after her line went silent, he had been frantic with worry. He had immediately borrowed a private helicopter from his only wealthy friend and flown to Eirlandia himself. Using GPS, he had located her after a desperate search. When he found her, she was lying in the snow, her body nearly frozen solid. The doctors told him that if he had been even a little later, the outcome would have been tragic.

But he would never tell her any of that. His love for her was something he would keep locked in his heart.

Annika knew he was lying, but she simply said, "Thank you." She tried to gently pull her hand from his grasp, and Hank realized he was still holding onto her as if terrified she would disappear. Blushing, he quickly let go. "Sorry... I was half-asleep, not thinking straight."

Annika lowered her gaze and bit her lip, saying nothing.

When the doctor came to check on her, Hank asked, "Is the baby okay?"

That's when Annika realized he had known all along that she hadn't gone through with the abortion. He had helped her escape, lying to Conrad and even getting fired for it. It was a debt she felt she could never repay.

"Everything is fine," the doctor announced after the examination. "She can be discharged."
