Lana had just finished making dinner, and Annika was sitting at the table, eating. Suddenly, the quiet room was filled with the buzzing of her phone. She picked it up, glanced at the unfamiliar number, and answered.
"Annika, you finally answered," Tyler's voice came through, full of pleasant surprise. He let out a heavy sigh of relief. "I haven't been able to reach you for so long. Where on earth have you been?"
His voice was thick with concern.
Ever since Annika found out that Conrad would secretly make trouble for Tyler every time they met, she had intentionally kept her distance and even deleted all of his contact information. If she had known it was him calling, she wouldn't have answered.
Annika glanced at the inky blackness outside the window, her gaze falling on a shifting shadow in the corner. They were supposedly people Yazmin had left to take care of her, but it was more likely they were hired by Conrad to watch her every move.
A faint smile touched her pale lips as she said, "I'm at Scent Haven."
"Okay, I'm on my way."
Seemingly desperate to see her, Tyler didn't even stop to think about where Scent Haven was. He just hung up and drove over in a hurry.
"Annika, did I do something to offend you? You deleted all my contact info!" he complained the moment he saw her, clearly upset.
Annika simply smiled without a word and asked Lana to pour Tyler a cup of coffee.
Tyler sat down with his coffee, studying Annika closely. He hadn't seen her in two weeks, and she seemed to have lost weight. Her chin was sharper, her features more defined and beautiful, and her skin had a delicate, alluring glow. Just looking at her made his heart race.
But when his eyes swept over her slightly rounded belly, a wave of cold shock washed over him, as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped on his head. He shivered, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You're pregnant?"
