HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 1058

Eli never expected those words to come from David.

“Break up?”

The world seemed to stop spinning for a split second. Without realizing it, Eli clenched her hands tightly.

“Yes. I don’t want to waste my time anymore with a girl who is only playing games with me.” David stared sharply into Eli’s eyes. A surge of anger rose higher every time their eyes met.

“So... this is really the end?”

“There’s no need to say much. There’s no point in talking anymore. Our relationship is over.”

David did not wait for Eli to respond. Without hesitation, he turned around and walked away, leaving Eli alone in the garden area near the dormitory.

David left with the full conviction that he was the one who had been hurt. In his mind, he was the victim of Eli’s ego-driven game, the victim of a cheap act involving Josh, the victim of jealousy that had deliberately been created to humiliate him in public.

He did not see, or perhaps deliberately chose not to see, how many sacrifices Eli had made to maintain this brief relationship.

“Fine, if that’s what you want,” Eli said softly. Her eyes remained fixed on David’s back as he grew farther away.

Eli did not chase after David.

There was no shouting his name. There were no hurried footsteps following him to apologize or clear up the misunderstanding as she usually had in the past. Eli’s feet felt rooted to the ground as her eyes remained fixed on David’s back, which was gradually disappearing into the morning crowd.

Eli remained silent for quite some time until finally, she took a deep breath and started making her way back to her dorm. “Isn’t this better? Because in this relationship... I was the only one fighting for it.”

The thought of sending him an explanatory message or simply asking for a second chance did not cross her mind at all. This time, her peace of mind was far more valuable than forcing herself to stay in a relationship that made her feel invisible.

“Enough, enough. It ends here,” Eli murmured to herself, her voice hoarse but firm.

A few minutes later, while Eli was still sitting on the floor and trying to calm her thoughts, there was a knock from outside the room. Her brows furrowed deeply as she wondered who her visitor was this afternoon.

Eli lifted her face. She did not get up immediately. Her eyes were still puffy, and her chest felt heavy.

“Eli?” Natalie’s voice came from behind the door.

Eli fell silent for a moment. She wiped the remaining tears from her cheeks, then took a deep breath.
