Cale's routine changed without him even realizing it. Every morning, he began his day in Lydia's room, making sure she had eaten breakfast and taken her medication on schedule. Around noon, he moved to Naomi's room, relieving Chris, who would usually agree to leave the hospital for only a few hours to shower or simply clean himself up.
By evening, he returned to Lydia's bedside until she fell asleep.
That had been his routine for the past seven days.
Lydia's injuries were showing encouraging progress. The pallor had gradually begun to fade from her face, and the doctor said her recovery was progressing faster than expected. Most reassuring of all, the latest examination showed that the baby she was carrying was developing well. The tiny heartbeat sounded strong during every checkup, as though it too was giving everyone a reason to keep holding on through those difficult days.
Even so, Cale still hadn't allowed Lydia to learn Naomi's true condition. He only told her that Naomi was undergoing treatment and needed time to rest. Lydia had insisted several times that she wanted to visit her, but the doctor had not given permission because her emotional state still needed to be protected for the sake of her pregnancy, which had only just entered its early stages.
Meanwhile, Brandon didn't remain idle either. After being cleared to leave his hospital room, he immediately began attending physical therapy every day. His shoulder still ached whenever he raised his left arm, but he never complained even once. To him, recovering as quickly as possible was far more important than dwelling on the pain that remained.
Meanwhile, Daven had returned to Mighatan the day before. There were too many matters that could no longer be left unattended, especially since his family had begun questioning his disappearance without a word for several days. Before leaving, he made sure all his men continued guarding the hospital in shifts without drawing anyone's attention.
Everything was done in silence.
The media knew nothing about the gunfight at the old warehouse. Not a single news report mentioned Naomi or Lydia by name. Every piece of information had been deliberately kept under wraps. As far as Cale was concerned, there were still far too many enemies who had yet to reveal themselves. As long as Falcon was still alive and Silas had not been found, the fewer people who knew about their condition, the better the chances of keeping both women safe.
Out in the world, life continued as usual. People went to work, laughed, and carried on with their busy lives. But for those who waited every day outside Naomi's hospital room... time seemed to have stopped on the day the bullet stole the girl's consciousness.
That morning, Chris finally left Naomi's room for a while after one of the nurses insisted that he go buy breakfast and coffee. He had barely moved from his chair for almost two hours. Reluctant as he was, he eventually gave in to reassure the nurses, who had started worrying about his own condition.
