Chapter 223 –
Chapter 223
Dominic’s POV
Something was wrong. I knew it before I consciously admitted it to myself.
It started with a text. Then another.
No reply.
I glanced down at my phone again.
Still nothing.
Normally, that wouldn’t have bothered me. Isa was busy, especially now that the museum opening was only days away.
She must be practically drowning in work these days.
But the problem wasn’t that she hadn’t replied. The problem was that she was late. Very late.
And Isabella hated being late, especially when Mateo was waiting for her. Especially when she knew I was making dinner. Especially when she knew I’d worry,
I looked at the clock again.
Then at the pasta I had made specially for her. I’d even taught Mateo the recipe and he had helped in his own way.
He currently sat at the kitchen island coloring quietly and waiting for his mother just like I was.
“Is Mama almost home?” The innocent question made my stomach tighten.
“Soon.”
I hoped.
God.
I hoped.
My phone remained silent.
I finally called her but it went straight to voicemail. That immediately made me sit up straighter.
No.
That wasn’t right.
I called again and got the same result.
The uneasy feeling in my chest grew sharper.
I grabbed my phone and called Marco.
He answered instantly, “Boss.”

Chapter 223
Has Isabella left work yet?”
A pause. Then, “No. I haven’t seen her leave.”
I sighed. That meant she was still at the office. “Okay. Inform me when she does
“Will do, Boss.”
I hung up and waited some more.
But something still didn’t sit right with me. If she was staying late, she’d tell me because she knew I why wasn’t she answering my texts or calls?
She must be busy, I tried to reason with myself. But it sounded weak even to me.
Another ten minutes. Then twenty. Then thirty.
Each minute stretched longer than the last.
By the time an hour had passed, I couldn’t sit still anymore.
Something was definitely wrong.
I felt it. My mother seemed worried about Isa, too. The Isa we knew didn’t just disappear like that.
The same instinct that had kept me alive for years was screaming at me now.
Go. Move. Find her.
