His Secret Baby: Six Months After Divorce (Mia and Ethan) novel Chapter 13

< Chapter 13

One o’clock sharp. Mia sat at the polished mahogany desk right outside the CEO’s office.

Her resignation had been brutally rejected just hours ago. The golden cage was locked tight, and she was Ethan’s Executive Secretary once again. How was she supposed to hide a growing pregnancy when she was forced to stand right next to the father every single day?

Taking a deep, steadying breath to fight off the rolling waves of morning sickness and the sheer panic gripping her chest, Mia walked into the massive office carrying a silver tray.

The afternoon sun spilled over Ethan. He radiated a cold, effortless power as he signed documents, not even bothering to look up. On the plush velvet sofa nearby, Chloe Bennett was lounging like a pampered queen, surrounded by fashion magazines, acting as if she already owned the top floor.

Ms. Bennett, the hot Mango Pomelo tea you requested,Mia said smoothly, placing the elegant cup on the glass table.

Chloe finally looked up from her fresh manicure. Her eyes narrowed viciously. Why is this hot?she snapped.

It’s the middle of winter,Mia replied, her voice perfectly level, betraying zero emotion. Did you want it iced?

Chloe let out a sharp, dramatic huff. Obviously. Do I have to spell every little thing out for you?

Mia instinctively glanced at Ethan. He continued signing papers, his face an impenetrable mask, completely ignoring Chloe’s petty drama.

He really lets her get away with anything, Mia thought, a familiar, dull ache settling in her heart before she ruthlessly squashed it down. She didn’t care anymore.

I’ll get an iced one,Mia said softly, turning on her heel.

Five minutes later, she returned with the iced version. Chloe didn’t reach for it. She stared at the condensation on the cup, her lips curling into a malicious sneer. Is this light ice or extra ice? Because if it’s not exactly how I like it-

It’s extra ice, exactly to your preference, Ms. Bennett,Mia cut her off with a flawless, polite smile. She pulled a small notepad from her blazer. Now, aside from the glutenfree chips you’re about to ask for, is there anything else you require? I’d prefer to fetch it all at once so I can return to my actual job.

Chloe’s mouth dropped open. Mia had completely anticipated her tantrum, leaving her looking like a spoiled, unreasonable child in front of

Ethan.

Ethan!Chloe whined, leaping off the sofa and stomping over to his desk. Look at how she’s speaking to me!

Ethan finally paused his pen. He looked up, his dark eyes flickering between the two women. His gaze bypassed Chloe entirely, lingering on Mia’s perfectly composed, flushed face for a second too long. He checked his Rolex with a quiet, heavy sigh of obvious irritation.

There’s a highprofile charity gala tonight, and I have a board meeting in ten minutes. Stop being difficult, Chloe.

Fine!Chloe pointed a manicured finger at Mia. Then make her come with me to pick out a dress. She can carry my bags.

Ethan’s jaw ticked. He hated the idea of Mia playing servant, but he needed Chloe out of his office to finish his work. He reached into his tailored suit jacket, pulled out his limitless, matteblack Centurion card, and held it out to Mia.

Take Ms. Bennett to the styling studio,Ethan commanded, his deep voice leaving no room for argument. And get a gown for yourself, too.
