Inside the car, Ethan’s hand, which had been reaching to unbuckle his seatbelt, froze. He watched with dark, somber eyes as Mia bent down to climb into her car and drove away without a moment’s hesitation.

His thin lips pressed into a hard line. His sharp, well-defined features were clouded with a layer of gloom.

His gaze lingered on the direction in which Mia had disappeared.

At the restaurant entrance, Sarah Gallagher emerged. She stood there, staring blankly at the car that was speeding

‘Go and ask the restaurant for the surveillance footage,” Sarah ordered her driver.

The driver immediately turned to comply.

Sarah’s heart was pounding uncontrollably. That bright, moving face she had just seen made her feel as if she were ooking at a version of her younger self.

Even though she thought that woman’s words earlier were ridiculously over the top, she couldn’t help but start to harbor a glimmer of hope.

you are?”

Ethan handed her a business card. “Ethan Hale, from Northbrook.”

‘Mr. Hale?” Sarah took the card, her tone surprised. “What brings you here?”

Just passing through,” Ethan said succinctly. “I’ve tried to set up a meeting with Mr. Gallagher several times, but

he seems very busy.”

Sarah gave a polite smile. “He hasn’t involved himself in business for a long time. He spends all his time at home

with the children.”

Ethan nodded. “I’ve heard Mr. Gallagher is a family man. It seems the rumors are true. However, my interest in meeting him isn’t purely about work.”

‘Not purely about work?” Sarah countered. “What else could it be about?”

“It’s about the Gallagher family,” Ethan said, his voice cold and serious. “The Gallagher family is not at peace. I’m afraid it will be very difficult for Mr. Gallagher to find the stability he seeks.”

Sarah’s face darkened. “Isn’t that still just work talk?”

She was resistant. Even though this was her first time meeting Ethan and she knew he was a man of great status, she couldn’t hide her irritation. It was clear that she and Mr. Gallagher wanted nothing more than to live their lives behind closed doors.

Ethan paused for a moment. “Then I have been presumptuous. Please give Mr. Gallagher my regards.”

He didn’t push.

Sarah’s attitude softened slightly. “I apologize. I lost my composure just now because of some troubling matters.”
