Hearing Jaxon’s sharp intake of breath, Mia instinctively snatched the towel back.
But in her rush, her hand slipped. She clipped the coffee cup in Ethan’s hand, knocking it over.
The dark liquid bled into the clear water, clouding it instantly. It splashed across Ethan’s pristine white robe, staining the fabric.
Total silence followed.
Mia’s grip tightened on the towel. She reflexively reached out to wipe the stain off his chest.
Her hand froze just before touching him as she realized where they were he was still in the pool.
Panicked and flustered, her eyes locked with Ethan’s. His gaze was dark, bottomless, and completely unreadable.
A second later, Ethan stood up. Water cascaded off him as he rose from the pool, droplets racing down his lean, nuscular frame.
Before Mia could even blink, Ethan’s hand clamped around her wrist. He hauled her toward the lounge area.
Marcus and Jaxon climbed out of the water, eyes glued to the retreating pair.
Wait, Mr. Hale ” Marcus started, instinctively trying to follow.
axon stepped in and blocked his path. “Let him go, Mr. Ford. Ethan clearly has some ‘private business’ to handle. We shouldn’t interrupt. Besides, I’ve been meaning to discuss our partnership with you anyway.”
Fine. Let’s head over there.” Marcus followed Jaxon to a different pool, and they shifted the conversation to
›usiness.
in the lounge, Mia stumbled, barely able to keep up with Ethan’s aggressive, long strides.
He finally came to a halt. Mia was panting, her eyes trembling as she looked up at him.
His bathrobe hung loosely off his frame, the dark coffee stain near his thigh looking even more conspicuous now.
Ethan stared down at her, the fury in his eyes so thick it was impossible to ignore.
Yet, a cold smirk played on his lips. “What’s the matter? Worried about how you’re going to explain this to Jaxon?”
You did that on purpose, Mia said, her voice shaking with disbelief. “I told you, Jaxon and I it’s not what you
hink!”
Ethan arched an eyebrow. “I don’t give a damn what’s going on between you two, But as long as you’re still at Bayview, you’ll stay in your lane.”
He didn’t believe a word she said.
Being a secretary at Bayview didn’t mean she had signed away her right to a personal life. Even if she chose to date someone from a rival company, it wasn’t his business to interfere.
Ethan didn’t actually care about the rules. He was just obsessed with his own ego.
The truth didn’t matter to him, and neither did the consequences his little stunt would have on Mia.

He only cared about one thing: marking his territory and making sure Jaxon got the message to back off.
“If you’re so worried about Jaxon coming after me, Mr. Hale, then just fire me.”
Mia felt suffocated. His invisible grip on her life was tightening, and she could barely breathe.
If this kept up, things were going to spiral. It would end exactly the way she feared most completely out of her control.
Her face was flushed, her tiny features tight with defiance.
