Saturday afternoon.

Eager to make the blind date a success, Madeline arrived at Virginia's apartment early.

After taking charge of Cynthia and making sure Virginia had changed into an elegant ash-gray dress and touched up her makeup, Madeline finally left with the little girl.

The suitor was Nathan Preston. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, stood over six feet tall, and was dressed in a beige casual suit for the occasion.

When Virginia arrived, he was already sitting quietly at the table, exuding an aura of gentle refinement.

After taking their seats, they briefly sized each other up before exchanging simple introductions.

Just as she expected, Nathan was mild-mannered and a man of few words, but he carried himself with natural poise when he spoke. He made a surprisingly good first impression.

He was a pragmatic guy, and since he liked what he saw in Virginia, he cut straight to the chase.

"Dr. Caldwell, I'm not one to beat around the bush. My first impression of you is fantastic. If you're open to it, I'd like to see where this goes. You probably already know the basics about me, so let me share what you might not know."

Virginia held her teacup, listening patiently for him to continue.

"My job is incredibly demanding, and I'm often called in for emergency surgeries, which means I might not have a lot of free time to spend with you."

"Dr. Preston," she said, setting her cup down with a polite, detached smile. "I don't have any objections. I think we can try going on a few dates."

Nathan's eyes lit up. He adjusted his glasses and considerately steered the conversation to lighter topics.

The atmosphere flowed far more harmoniously than Virginia had anticipated.

They dined for nearly an hour and a half, chatting about their daily routines. Nathan even shared some of his long-term career goals.

Throughout the meal, Virginia didn't talk much, but the look in her eyes showed none of the resistance she had expected to feel.

She had to admit, Nathan was a good catch. Madeline undeniably had a good eye for people.
