ANTHONY’S POV
"Who’s that?" I asked Marco.
His eyes followed what I was staring at.
"Oh.... that’s my grandmother," Marco told me in a whisper.
"Where is she?" I followed up.
"Uh my dad said she died, a long time ago before I was born," he told me. " I have never met her."
"Oh," I replied.
"But I know she was important to my Dad. There are other pictures of her around the mansion," he said in a quiet voice.
I realised we had different grandmothers.
I remembered my own grandmother. She was still alive and I used to see her sometimes when my mum and I lived with dad but we were not close. I didn’t know her too well. I saw grandfather way more.
So our dads were brothers...but not from the same mother. Kind of like what I thought Marco and I were initially. My mind was trying to understand the our family which was like a puzzle.
We ate breakfast and then went to clean up in the bathroom when we were done.
Our bathroom was not inside our room I wondered why. All my bedrooms in the houses I had lived in had a bathroom inside them. But even though it wasn’t in the room it was next to our room. Marco and I finished cleaning up brushing our teeth, washing our face etc.
Marco opened the door and as I expected him to walk out into the hallway. However, as he stepped out he then quickly turned around and hid behind the wall of the room, cowering in fear.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What’s wrong? I asked him but he didn’t say anything.
I then walked out the door myself. A man walked past me, looking up at their face I realised it was my uncle. He was dressed in a suit and I figured he was going to work.
My eyes met his and I glared at him as he walked by. He looked down at me for a moment then looked away in disinterest. Seeing his face reminded of everything he was doing to me and I felt so angry.
I wanted to jump at him but then I remembered how scared I was at dinner yesterday. He didn’t yell at me but I knew he was dangerous.
My gaze went back to Marco who was still crouched down.
"He’s gone," I told him so he could get up.
We then went to our bedroom.
"So what do we do?" I asked him is we stood in the centre
"We can play. As long as we don’t do anything we’re not supposed to, my dad won’t mind," he told me.
"Marco—" I tried to speak.
"Please Tony," Marco begged in a whisper I barely heard. "You have no idea what could happen to us please don’t ever talk about this."
His eyes and hands were shaking.
I remembered when he told me his father did scary things to people did he think that was going to happened to us.
"The safest thing is to listen to my dad and wait for him to finish. If you behave he should let you go in the end. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine." Marco said.
My eyes searched his for a moment. I didn’t agree, this didn’t feel right, for me or for him. "Okay," I agreed though, just to make him stop panicking.
After a moment and he finally let me go. A sigh of relief came out his mouth. "Good." He said.
We spent the day playing board games and watching tv.
The next day was the same. we played video games and played football in the gardens outside. And the next day was similar as well and the next. It was the same routine every time.
Eat, play, sleep.
We never left the house.
And all our actions were constantly watched by the bodyguards around the house. By the end of the since I’d been brought here I began to worry about how long this same routine was going to continue. I couldn’t say or ask anything to Marco because he didn’t know much either and he was terrified of speaking too much.
