JASMINE’S POV
The next morning, I got ready to go to the HQ with Keith. I dressed in a simple suit. Keith had all my clothes and things from my apartment sent to his estate. It felt incredibly invasive that he entered my apartment without my approval, but this is Keith we’re talking about, so I’m not surprised. And the court order he got allowed it.
Nurse Anne did a quick check-up on me and then pushed me in my wheelchair out of my room. I met Keith in the foyer of his mansion. He was dressed and ready for work. It was uncomfortably similar to how I would meet with Luis in the foyer of his apartment every morning before we left for work.
For a moment, we stared at each other. More so, I was glaring at him, and he was staring at me with that annoying blank expression of his.
"Let’s go," I told him.
He didn’t seem too happy seeing me. I figured the issue was that Keith wanted to prevent me from escaping. He felt uncomfortable taking me to the HQ with him.
He then pushed me in my wheelchair towards the mansion front door, and my eyes widened in surprise. The car was waiting for us in the driveway, and a second car was behind it for the bodyguards.
The car door was opened by one of the 7 bodyguards who surrounded us. Keith brought me close to it and then came around and tried to lift me from the chair.
As his hand made contact with my back, I recoiled at his touch, wondering why he was the one helping me when there were servants who could do it.
"I can get in myself," I said as I quickly got up from the wheelchair and went in the car. I internally winced at the pain that shot up in my foot from the sudden movement. I would rather that than him touching me though.
Keith stared at me for a moment and then closed the door for me. He then went to the other car door, sat beside me, and the driver took off. There was silence between us for a moment before Keith spoke up.
"I’ve been wondering what we can do if we want to evade suspicion. If the culprit is someone at the HQ if they catch us looking at documents, they might think we’re onto something and panic," he told me.
"So what do you suggest?" I asked him, then contemplated for a moment. "I don’t think they would worry too much about us looking further into it," I told him. "I’m confident they don’t know that we have the drafts. So if there is any suspicious activity going on, the culprit should assume we have no leads."
I thought of the way Diana’s partner had been operating this far. They were always one step ahead. They always cleaned up any evidence they left behind. There was almost an overconfidence in the way they operated. Keith said he had requested several in-depth reports and found nothing.
He brought a hand to his chin as he contemplated. "Very well," he accepted my assessment.
It still felt so strange having Keith actually listen to me. He was always dismissive and rude towards me in the past. Back when he still believed anything Diana told him. Now he wanted to hear my opinion.
Granted, he didn’t have a choice now, but it was still weird.
Upon arriving at the Acland headquarters, Keith got out of his side of the car, and on my side, the door was opened by one of the bodyguards.
The bodyguard then reached out their hand to help me, but Keith suddenly appeared and took my hand. My eyebrows sprang up, wondering why he was doing it himself yet again.
