Chapter 251: Pretending and tears

My eyes scanned the documents on the table before us, and my lips pressed into a thin line.

I really hoped we would quickly find who was responsible for this. I thought to myself. For using him as a pawn like this....

"Jasmine..." his voice broke in surprise as he looked at me with a concerned expression.

"What?" I said in surprise and then understood once I felt it. A wetness on my cheeks. I was crying. Again.

Keith then immediately switched from his seat opposite mine and sat next to me.

He brought his hands to my shoulders, getting more comfortable with touching me, it seems.

My eyes were barely able to see due to the tears that welled in them. They met Keith’s blue eyes, which seemed nervous, as if contemplating what he should do. What surprised me about Keith is how he seemed to react to my emotions.

"Was it too much for you?" He asked in a gentle voice.

"It’s a lot to take in, I guess, but it’s fine, I’m fine," I told him and wiped away my tears. I didn’t want to cry right now.

"Jasmine, I am looking for Anthony, I swear on it, and I am doing everything I can," he tried to reassure me again.

"Are you going to give them what they want?" I asked curiously as I composed myself. Putting up Tony’s life in exchange for the Acland group was quite the wager.

"For now, I’ll focus more on finding them and where they are so none of that has to happen," he informed me.

"...And if we don’t?" The question left me in fear.

"Don’t think like that," he said to me. "We will find him."

"I want to trust your confidence, but you still have to prepare in case we’re out of options. What will you do then?" I asked him.

He let out a sigh. "I’m still looking into the details and terms in the ransom note with my men, lawyers, and advisors. They are helping me work through and understand my options. I will also have to discuss with my father, so I can’t give you an answer just yet," he explained calmly. "But I also want you to know that I’m okay?"

I slowly nodded my head.

This is the most sincere he’s been with me since I woke up in his estate. It felt genuine, at least I hoped it was... I wanted to be hopeful, but I was scared. Two weeks wasn’t a lot of time. And with so many unknowns... It was difficult.

Not to mention, Keith couldn’t give me an answer yet. I hoped it would all go according to plan and we would find him before then. However, the fear loomed.
