"Who’s that with the manager?" I asked Mike as we looked in the direction they had gone.
I’m not sure but he’s one of superiors of the company. I think he works closely with the CEO." Mike explained. "He often comes in from time to time and inspects the place."
"Mmhmm, I see," I replied.
After the breakfast service was done and were about to start preparing tables for the lunch service the manager called us for a meeting.
"Alright everyone I wanted to let you know that next week one of the higher ups of the company will be coming for lunch here for a meeting," the manager informed us. "They’ll come here on either Wednesday or Tuesday, I’ll let you know but we have to ensure we present ourselves well and make a good impression!"
"Yes, sir!" All the gathered restaurant workers said in unison.
Was that what that man from earlier had come to talk to the manager about? I wondered.
One of the higher ups I thought to myself. Did that mean someone from the Carrington family? We would be serving them? I thought to myself. I felt a little nervous at the fact.
For the rest of the day I couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility of meeting the Carringtons the following week. Growing up, my family and the Carringtons had been close. Back then the Carrington family was multimillion dollar company like my family’s business but after they grew to be a massive billion dollar corporation they fell
Was it going to be the chairman of the Carrington company, Robert Carrington? I wondered. Or his son Robert Carrington jr. , his soon to be successor? Robert senior actually has three children, another son and a daughter. However, it was his eldest son that would takeover the company in future.
Aside from meeting them growing up, I had seen Robert jr and snr several times at events with Keith. If either of them came there was a high chance they would recognize me. The Carrington corporation and the Acland group were part of the top ten largest companies in the country so we would bump into each other more often than other socialites. Unlike the other socialites I had encountered at the restaurant so far whom I only occasionally met at events with Keith, that’s why they didn’t recognize me immediately.
If they recognised me what would that mean? Would I be able continue continue working here normally?
I’d felt safe at work so far despite knowing the Carringtons were the owner because I never had imagined I’d ever interact with them. I was "low-level" worker. It was rare for workers at the bottom of a large cooperation to ever interact with the owners. I also knew that my coworkers and manager didn’t know who I was.
None of my coworkers or the manager knew who I was because they didn’t know the world of socialites. Most working class people didn’t know. Successful business owners weren’t like celebrity actors or singers that constantly showed themselves to the world. I asked Mike, Megan and Josh and they didn’t even know what their bosses, the Carringtons, looked like.
