I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 128

Lunch was served at the monastery.

Even while eating, Wynette kept thinking about whether Amias might actually be Ammius-Crocus.

As a result, she spent the entire meal distracted and absent-minded.

Amias noticed and looked at her with a gentle smile. "Ms. Jewell, is the monastery food not to your taste?"

His voice pulled Wynette back to reality. "No, it's really good."

The monastery's food was plain and uncomplicated, yet every dish was warm, hearty, and deeply comforting.

Hearing that, Amias only chuckled softly. "That's good. I thought maybe you were too used to expensive delicacies and couldn't get used to simple food like this. The monastery only serves meals like these."

Wynette instantly looked embarrassed, realizing Amias had probably misunderstood her distracted expression earlier.

She was just about to explain.

But Gavin, who was sitting beside Amias, reached over and smacked the back of his head. "Brat, Wynette isn't the kind of girl who can't handle simple food. Besides, who in their right mind would complain about the dishes at Sacred Light Monastery?"

Because Amias had grown up in the monastery since childhood, the Holloways had once gone to great lengths to hire famous chefs to come teach cooking there for the sake of his health.

That was exactly why Sacred Light Monastery's cuisine had become so famous.

The moment Gavin heard his cousin talking like that, irritation flared inside him. I knew this kid wasn't nearly as gentle and obedient as he looked on the surface.

Even if he didn't know what Wynette had done to make Amias uncomfortable, Gavin still felt Amias should at least show Adriel some respect.

At the very least, he could be a little more polite to the woman Adriel liked.

Amias shot Gavin a helpless look. "Gavin, if you keep hitting the back of my head, I'll actually turn stupid. That'll be on you."

Gavin waved dismissively. "With the Holloways' fortune, even if you really turned stupid, we'd still be able to support you for life without any problems."

Amias stared speechlessly at the ceiling. Wow. Thanks so much, man.

At this point, Wynette had also picked up on the deeper meaning behind Amias's words.

Her brows furrowed slightly. Have I accidentally offended him somehow?

Why does it feel like Amias suddenly carries some hostility toward me after such a short amount of time?

Wynette couldn't figure it out, no matter how much she thought about it.

Amias simply withdrew his gaze, lowered his eyes, and silently continued eating.

He had specifically asked someone to investigate Wynette and discovered that she used to be Noah's fiancée. Then she had suddenly fallen out with Noah, and afterward, she started constantly showing up beside Adriel.

From Amias's perspective, Wynette probably had ulterior motives.

He had always hated people who played games.

The moment he suspected Wynette might be up to something, he found it difficult to treat her warmly.

Still, out of courtesy and for Adriel's sake, Amias continued politely calling her "Ms. Jewell."

Amias could clearly tell that Adriel treated Wynette very differently. It had already gone beyond ordinary friendship.

Even without Adriel saying it out loud, Amias understood perfectly well what it meant.

Adriel has feelings for Wynette.

But what about Wynette?

Is she approaching Adriel with hidden intentions, or has she truly let go of Noah and isn't trying to use Adriel?

A dark look flickered through Amias's eyes.

Adriel picked up food for Wynette before speaking meaningfully to Amias. "Amias, what did I tell you before? Don't judge people based on your own assumptions. Sometimes, what you see isn't necessarily the truth."

The moment those words landed, Amias suddenly snapped back to himself.

He realized he'd let his emotions cloud his judgment and had nearly gotten carried away.

Instantly, guilt washed over him, and he took the initiative to apologize. "I'm sorry, Ms. Jewell."

He was in the wrong, and he admitted it.

Wynette smiled softly after hearing him. "It's okay."

Honestly, it was pretty distinctive.

The moment Adriel saw the profile picture, he immediately realized this person was the Ammius-Crocus Wynette had been searching for.

His voice lowered. "You came to Sacred Light Monastery today because you were looking for Ammius-Crocus?"

Even if Wynette denied it now, Adriel clearly wouldn't believe her.

Wynette had no intention of denying it anyway. "I added his assistant and found out he was coming here today for a day trip, so I figured I'd try my luck."

"Did you find him?" Adriel asked.

Wynette spread her hands helplessly. "No. I honestly didn't expect Sacred Light Monastery to get this many visitors in a single day. It kind of shocked me. In a crowd this huge, even if I had X-ray vision, there'd still be no way I could accurately identify someone with so little information. If I could actually pull that off, I'd basically be invincible."

She laughed at herself while speaking.

Adriel spoke again. "Tell me everything you know so far."

After hearing her explanation, Adriel was left speechless. "So all you know is that the person's male and local... and that's it?"

Finding him with information like that would honestly be a miracle.

Wynette smiled. "There's also the information from the assistant's old social media posts. Ammius-Crocus likes Nibbles."

"Didn't you say he practically saved that plush keychain factory? Didn't you have Shirley investigate it?" Adriel suggested.

Wynette nodded. "We did. The owner is still the same person. The investor just provided the money.

"The owner said he's never even met the real investor before, either. Everything gets handled entirely through the assistant."

Adriel frowned. "That's seriously secretive."

Wynette gave a small hum in agreement. "It goes beyond that. Even the assistant has never met him personally. Apparently, all communication is handled through a foreign intermediary."

After learning all that, Wynette had investigated every lead she could think of.

And the results turned out to be surprisingly interesting.
