“Adriel, the moment I made my decision, I never planned to back out.” Wynette’s voice was firm.

That wasn’t what Adriel had expected.

He had asked Wynette to marry him twice before, and she had rejected him both times.

So when she agreed this time, Adriel assumed she had only spoken without thinking.

But now, she was telling him she had never planned to change her mind.

A shadow passed through Adriel’s deep eyes.

Wynette seemed to see right through his mind and let out a soft scoff. “You’ve been at odds with Noah since you were kids. The two of you have been fighting each other for years. Everyone in Scenaville knows it.

“Adriel, I’m not naive enough to think you want to marry me because you like me.”

From the first time she heard his proposal, Wynette had never thought of it as something related to feelings.

Because that was impossible. Adriel couldn’t possibly like her.

Just like she could never like Adriel.

Wynette knew very well that Adriel had chosen her simply to make Noah look bad.

After hearing her words, Adriel’s gaze grew even deeper. “Then tell me. What do you think the reason is?”

He was curious how she saw this marriage between them.

Wynette answered honestly, “If word gets out that your biggest rival’s fiancée becomes your wife, Noah is the one who will be embarrassed.”

In this matter, Adriel would come out ahead in this situation.

That was probably why he had come to her in the first place.

It was also why she had refused at the beginning.

She didn’t want to become a pawn in the rivalry between Adriel and Noah.

She only agreed the third time because she’d changed her mind.

Since Noah had trampled on her feelings again and again, using Adriel to strike back at him

wasn’t unreasonable at all.

Wynette didn’t think she was doing anything wrong by using Adriel. After all, he had his calculations as well.

At most, the two of them were simply using each other to embarrass Noah and make him lose pride.

Adriel instantly understood what Wynette meant.

He simply stared at her pale, fragile face without blinking.

After a long moment, he finally asked, “So that’s how you see it?”

Wynette shot back, “Isn’t it?”

It was just simple words, yet they made Adriel look slightly displeased.

Still, he quickly adjusted his expression. “You’re right, but…”

He paused slightly. “You seem to have given me one more reason to marry you.”

“What?” Wynette looked at him in confusion.

Did that mean her analysis was wrong?

Had she gone on and on and ended up overthinking it?

The thought made her feel a little awkward.

Adriel noticed the change in her mood and smiled faintly. “My family has been pushing me to get married. So I figured I’d better choose one I grew up with. It’d be more convincing than suddenly dragging home a stranger to put on a show.

“Even though you’ve always had this weird hostility toward me because of Noah, I still know you pretty well. Bringing you home would be enough to deal with my elders.”

That had been Adriel’s plan from the very beginning.

Ever since he took over the Gallagher Group, his elders had been constantly pressuring him to get married.

Sometimes, they even used family dinners as an excuse to invite socialites from Scenaville and nearby cities, turning the gathering into a matchmaking event.

After dealing with that again and again, Adriel had grown completely fed up with it.

Wynette was stunned by his explanation.

So he had come to her simply because his family kept pressuring him to marry, and he wanted someone familiar to help deal with them?

Was it really that simple?

For some reason, she found it hard to believe.

While Wynette was still puzzled, Adriel added, “Based on what you just said, I think this marriage might actually be the perfect decision.

“I get to deal with my family’s constant pressure to marry and slap Noah in the face. He’ll piss off.”

He met her eyes. “And you get to use me to get back at Noah for trampling on your feelings again and again.

“Isn’t Noah only so reckless because he knows you like him? If he finds out you ended up marrying me instead, I bet the look on his face would be priceless.”

His low voice carried a hint of obvious schadenfreude.

Of course, Wynette noticed it right away.

That was the Adriel she was familiar with. He never held back when it came to going after Noah.

Adriel was already looking forward to the moment Noah realized what he had lost.

Even though he had bluntly exposed her thoughts, Wynette didn’t get angry. Instead, she replied casually, “As you said, this marriage gives us both what we want. That’s enough.”

To put it bluntly, they had their own agendas. Right now, their cooperation would benefit both of them. Why not?

Adriel nodded in agreement. “Then it’s settled. I’ll wait for you outside City Hall.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be there on time. I won’t stand you up as someone else did.”

At the end, Adriel couldn’t resist teasing her.

Wynette simply glanced at him flatly. “I hope so.”

He chuckled at that.

She looked at him and smiled faintly as well.

Soon, Adriel’s smile faded as he asked with concern, “Are you feeling any better now? Do you still feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
