I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 44

Marcus was already cursing in his head.

Finished

From the start, he had assumed Wynette was desperate to cut ties with Noah. So when he reached out, he never planned to pay full market price for her shares.

But he hadn’t expected Wynette to be this tough.

She simply wouldn’t fall for his tricks.

Now things were getting complicated.

She was asking for a high price, far higher than he liked. He didn’t really want to buy at that price. But if he did, he could use it to annoy Noah.

Damn it. What should I do?

Right now, Marcus felt stuck. If he took the deal, it didn’t feel worth it. If he walked away, it felt like a waste.

Either way, he was clearly uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Wynette sat calmly to the side, sipping her coffee like none of this was bothering her.

Just then, a voice came from the door.

“What a coincidence.” Adriel stepped in with his hands in his pockets, greeting everyone like he had just run into them by chance.

Wynette looked at him, a hint of confusion in her eyes.

Why is he here?

Joanne, on the other hand, almost rolled her eyes. Coincidence? Yeah, right.

He clearly knew about the meeting place from the start, and now he was pretending to just happen to be closeby. It felt fake.

But what puzzled her more was this–why was Adriel suddenly so interested in Wynette’s business?

Her mind raced. And then she thought about yesterday. Sure, Wynette had said Adriel just happened to be there and gave her a ride to the hospital. But staying to take care of her? That wasn’t something he would normally do.

Joanne stared at her brother’s cold, serious face. She couldn’t help but wonder, doeshe have feelings for Wynette?

Otherwise, how would you explain all this attention?

Marcus was just as confused.

He looked at Adriel, unable to figure him out.

Chapter 44 A Deal Interrupted

Weren’t people saying Adriel and Wynette didn’t get along?

This didn’t look like two people who hated each other

Guess rumors really couldn’t be trusted.

Adriel walked over and sat beside Joanne like he belonged there.

He picked up a glass, poured himself some lemon water, and took a casual sip.

Marcus watched him carefully, his eyes moving back and forth between Adriel and Wynette.

He couldn’t read the situation at all anymore.

Things were no longer going the way he expected.

Wynette glanced at Joanne, silently asking what was going on.

Joanne shrugged and mouthed, “I have no idea.”

Sure, Adriel had asked for the address–but he never said he would show up.

She was just as lost.

Foushed

Adriel took another sip of water, then turned to Wynette. “I heard from my sister that you’re planning to sell your shares.”

Joanne quickly waved her hands at Wynette, signaling that she hadn’t said anything.

She was puzzled. How did he find out?

A bad feeling rose in Marcus’s chest. Why did this feel like trouble?

Is he here for Wynette’s shares?

Even after Marcus claimed the deal was settled, Adriel made his intentions clear.

He was openly telling Marcus he wanted those shares.

It was also a way of backing Wynette.

Adriel said it all with a smile.

Marcus quickly replied, “Let’s sign now. Mr. Gallagher, I know you’re powerful, but business should follow order. I came first. It wouldn’t look good if you stepped in halfway, right?”

He tried to flatter Adriel, hinting that someone of his status shouldn’t compete over something this small.

Then he shot Wynette a look. “Ms. Jewell, do you have the contract? I can sign now.”

At that moment, Joanne finally understood. Adriel wasn’t here by accident. He was playing the villain to push Marcus into accepting Wynette’s price.

She glanced at him and secretly gave a thumbs–up.

Smart move. She was impressed.

Wynette spoke calmly, “Mr. Whitmore, are you sure you don’t want to renegotiate the price?”

“No need,” Marcus said quickly, forcing a smile. “I trust you’ll offer a fair price.”

If he had known Adriel would show up, he never would’ve tried to lowball the deal in the first place.

Big mistake. A huge mistake.

Marcus regretted it deeply.

“Alright,” Wynette said with a smile. She took out the contract and handed it to him. “Take a look. If everything’s fine, just sign.”

Once he signed, she could leave the rest to Joanne.

Marcus flipped through the contract carefully. But when he saw the price, his eyes widened in shock.

What?
