I Choose Him, Your Worst Enemy novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98 She’s Got Some Brains, But It’s Not Enough

Finished

Wynette had already provided the method. As for how to use it, she believed Lorelei would know how to weigh her options.

And sure enough, Lorelei did not disappoint her

Not long after Wynette left the hospital, Lorelei posted a lengthy statement online detailing how Eve had forced her to leave Noah back then.

Lorelei also recorded a video herself. From the background, it was obvious she was still in the hospital. In the video, she publicly and formally apologized to Wynette.

She admitted to all the harm she had previously caused Wynette, including the things she said during her suicide attempt, claiming that she had only acted that way because she cared too much about Noah.

She hoped Wynette could forgive her.

Throughout the video, Lorelei tearfully accused Eve of threatening and tormenting her years ago.

Wynette watched the video herself.

Although Lorelei did not present any concrete evidence in it, the recording still indirectly proved Wynette’s innocence.

And that alone was enough to achieve the effect Wynette wanted.

Now she only hoped Lorelei’s next retaliation would prove just as satisfying.

The thought of Noah relentlessly chasing her all the way to the company again today genuinely annoyed Wynette to the point of exhaustion.

Around noon, Wynette heard that Eve had been summoned for questioning. Noah had probably gotten word of it too. Not long after, he hurriedly left the area outside Jewell Group where he had been waiting.

Shirley stood beside Wynette and gave her an update. “Noah already left. I heard Lorelei filed a lawsuit against Eve, though it probably won’t succeed. The Shepherds are already preparing to step in.”

Then she hesitated slightly before asking, “Wynette… do you really think Lorelei can successfully marry into the Shepherds?”

Wynette looked back at her calmly. “Why not?”

Shirley voiced her honest thoughts. “Lorelei does have some brains, but compared to the Shepherds… I’m afraid she’s still incompetent.”

Even if Lorelei sued Eve now, what would it really accomplish?

Wouldn’t that simply give the Shepherds even more reason to destroy her?

To be honest, even Wynette hadn’t expected Lorelei to directly file a lawsuit against Eve. She originally thought Lorelei would try negotiating with Eve privately on her own.

Which only proved that Lorelei wasn’t entirely foolish after all.

Wynette shook her head and explained, “Think about it. Lorelei still has evidence from back then. If she went alone to negotiate with Eve, what if Eve decided to make another move against her, just like she did years ago?”

“Lorelei’s already suffered once in Eve’s hands. She’ll definitely avoid making the same mistake again.”

This time, Lorelei had become smarter. Filing the lawsuit didn’t necessarily mean she would hand over all the evidence immediately.

But after creating such a public uproar, everyone now knew what Eve had done to her.

That meant it would no longer be so easy for Eve to act against her quietly.

And at a moment like this, it became the perfect opportunity for Lorelei to negotiate with Eve.

After listening to Wynette’s analysis, Shirley finally understood. Lorelei’s current approach really was the safest option.

Still, relying on that alone to marry into the Shepherds probably wouldn’t be easy.

Wynette suddenly recalled something. She turned toward Shirley. “Help me get a ticket to A Glimpse of Spring Anime Expo for tomorrow.”

Shirley immediately jumped into several group chats, offering a high price for a ticket.

Soon, someone messaged her privately and claimed they had one available.

While chatting with the seller, Shirley updated Wynette. “There’s a ticket, but they’re asking five times the original price.”

‘As long as it’s legitimate, that’s fine,” Wynette instructed. “Tell them to list it through StubHub, then arrange same–day express delivery today. I don’t care how expensive it is.”

Last night, Wynette had noticed that one section of the convention had announced a possible appearance from Ammius–Crocus. Although the organizers still hadn’t confirmed whether Ammius–Crocus would actually attend, they had already started using the name for publicity.

No matter what, Wynette intended to try her luck.

Not long after, Shirley spoke again. “It’s settled. Payment’s done. They already arranged same–day express delivery services. The seller isn’t far away, and we’re covering the delivery fee. They were pretty straightforward about it.”

“I’ll head downstairs to pick it up when it arrives.” Shirley said softly.

2:26 pm

Because of the dinner appointment, Wynette left the office earlier than usual.

She first stopped by The Grand Meridian to buy some health supplements before heading toward Le Mirage.

By the time Wynette arrived at the private room, Adam was already there waiting.

Feeling apologetic, she spoke immediately. “Mr. Adam, I’m sorry. I’m late.”

She truly hadn’t expected him to arrive so early.

How could a younger person make an elder wait?

Adam waved dismissively, clearly unconcerned, and gestured for Wynette to sit beside him.

When he noticed the items Wynette was carrying, Adam sighed helplessly. “Why did you spend money and buy me stuff again?”

“It’s just a small token of my regard. I hope Mr. Adam won’t find it too shabby.” Wynette handed the gifts

over.

Smiling warmly, Adam accepted them. “Of course not. Every gift you pick always suits my taste perfectly.”

At his words, Wynette simply smiled softly.

Adam looked at her with concern. “How’s it been these past few days taking over the company? Tired? Has it been hard on you?”

Faced with the old man’s rapid string of concern, Wynette shook her head gently. “It’s been good, not too exhausting and not too difficult.”

She had already been paying close attention to the company’s issues beforehand anyway. Aside from being busier than usual, everything else had gone relatively smoothly.

Then Wynette noticed something. Every single dish Adam ordered happened to be her favorite. Warmth quietly spread through her heart.
