The city nights were loud and brightly lit.
Due to the backlog of work from his medical leave, Jorrod didn't make it home until past nine o'clock.
Dr. Jacqueline Shaw had set a strict schedule for him.
Jacqueline had repeatedly warned him not to overwork himself just because his memories had returned. He needed to rest and give his recovering body a chance to bounce back.
He was ordered to stop all intense mental tasks before nine every night.
Jorrod hadn't taken the advice seriously at first.
But after processing a barrage of complex information all day, the sensory overload left him with a splitting headache.
Especially after his shower, the steaming heat made him feel dizzy.
Jorrod wrapped a towel loosely around his waist and stepped into his slippers, walking over to the bathroom vanity.
The man in the mirror had a towel slung low on his hips, revealing tightly corded, sculpted muscles.
Drops of water rolled off his broad shoulders, trailing down the deep grooves of his chest and disappearing beneath the edge of the towel.
He braced his hands on the edges of the sink, his arms locked straight.
He closed his eyes, waiting for the wave of discomfort to pass.
Once the dizziness faded, his phone lit up on the counter.
Jorrod turned around, leaning back lazily against the edge of the sink, and answered the call.
In the spacious, steam-filled bathroom, his voice echoed, sounding even deeper than usual.
"Dr. Shaw."
"I told you before," Jacqueline scolded gently. "You and Sienna can just call me Jacqueline. There's no need to be so formal."
He furrowed his brows.
"It's not a minor issue, so the treatment won't be quick," Jacqueline replied, finding his phrasing odd. "This is about your health. How can you call it 'taking up time'?"
Jorrod didn't answer.
He lowered his eyes, his gaze landing on the back of his hand gripping the counter.
A few faint scars were fading with time, almost invisible now.
Silas had told him that he spent his entire amnesiac period living at Sienna's place.
That meant, during that forgotten time, there was absolutely nothing of value that could advance his life or career—nothing but Sienna.
After a long moment, Jorrod spoke again. "I appreciate your help, Jacqueline, and thank you for taking the time to design the treatment plan. But I'm too swamped with work right now. If it won't affect my current memories, I've decided to abandon any further treatment."
