After Rowena left.
Silas watched the door close behind her.
He turned back to Jorrod. "That reminds me. Rowena mentioned something to me this morning. She thinks highly of Sienna's skills and wants to transfer her to the Design Department."
The light from the monitor cast a pale glow on Jorrod's expressionless face. He hit a few keys, remaining completely silent.
Silas felt thoroughly ignored.
"Did you hear me?"
He rolled a chair over, propped his elbows on the edge of the desk, and leaned closer to the screen.
He took one look at the dense spreadsheet and immediately shifted his gaze back to Jorrod's sharp profile.
Jorrod kept his eyes on the monitor and replied dryly, "Since she brought it up with you, there's no need to run it by me."
Silas wasn't thrilled by his friend's indifferent attitude.
He waved a hand. "I'm not asking for your permission. I'm venting."
Jorrod paused and slowly turned his head.
Silas went on, "Just look at the dynamic. You've got Liam, the ex Sienna can't seem to shake. Then you've got Nate trailing after her like a lovesick puppy. If you transfer her over there, how is anyone going to get any work done?"
At the mention of those names, Jorrod let out a low, disdainful scoff.
A moment later, he stated coolly, "The company has a strict anti-fraternization policy. Or did you forget?"
Silas nodded eagerly. "I know. So Sienna can't date Liam, and she can't date Nate."
"And naturally," Silas smirked, "she can't date you either."

Just after nine o'clock that evening, Janice finished rushing through the documents Jorrod had requested at the last minute.
Outside the windows, the sky was pitch black.
Ten o'clock.
Janice followed his line of sight.
The office was mostly empty. The main overhead lights were off, leaving only the glow of a few active monitors cutting through the darkness.
Jorrod was looking straight toward Sienna's desk.
Janice's heart skipped a beat as she instantly remembered how Sienna had confronted him during the meeting.
Although he hadn't shown any visible anger at the time, disrespecting the boss in front of senior management was a dangerous game. She worried he was still holding a grudge.
But before she could offer a defense for the younger woman, he spoke first.
"Has the Administrative Department been overwhelmed with work lately?" he asked evenly.
Janice quickly explained, "Not exactly. We usually finish our daily tasks by six and head home. The ones you see here are mostly interns and recent grads who live nearby. They say they're more comfortable chilling here than in their own apartments."
Seeing that he had fallen silent, she hesitated for a moment before deliberately steering the conversation back to Sienna.
