I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 270

Martha watched them step into Sienna's apartment. The moment the door clicked shut, she inexplicably bent down and sniffed her shoe rack.

What nonsense was that girl spouting? There was no smell...

But...

Martha remained rooted in the hallway, Jorrod's devastating words echoing relentlessly in her mind.

-

Sienna only needed to grab her files and had never intended to invite Jorrod inside.

Standing in the doorway, he remarked, "It really did smell."

"..."

She confined him to the tiny welcome mat. "Wait here. Your shoes are dirty, don't step inside."

Jorrod didn't argue, but he couldn't resist a jab. "Not the 'ashes of victory' anymore?"

Sienna winced, realizing her ancient, overly dramatic flattery had boomeranged right back at her.

"Forget it. Considering how bumpy your road to victory has been with your constant amnesia, I'll pass on the ashes."

Jorrod didn't retort, a faint smirk touching his lips as he handed her the breakfast bag. "Brought it up. It'll spoil in the car. Put it in the fridge if you aren't going to eat it."

Sienna stared at it for a moment before taking it and shoving it into the refrigerator.

She hurried into her bedroom to hunt for the files.

Jorrod remained standing by the door.

As if trapped in an invisible chalk circle, he obediently stayed put.

The last time he was here, he was frantically dealing with a drunk woman and spent most of his time in her bedroom.

This time, from his vantage point at the entrance, he could easily survey the entire apartment.

Every floor tile, every wall, every curtain.

He stared at the space where he had supposedly lived for months, desperately trying to summon a memory. Yet, after agonizing effort, his brain offered only one word: stranger.

Jorrod's brows knitted tightly together.

The harder he pushed, the more futile it felt; the emptier his mind, the fiercer his determination burned.

He had been born in total control of his life. This suffocating wave of despair and helplessness was entirely foreign, seeping deep into his bones.
