I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 318

"Look at this. I literally ran into them at a tourist spot a few days ago. They bought couples' tickets."

"And guess what? Pure coincidence, I went over to my friend's house later, and I saw them right next door. They're already renting a place together, playing house. Seems like things are getting pretty serious."

"It's so sweet." The first part was designed to stab her brother where it hurt, but this line was entirely genuine. "I'm really happy for her. Sienna finally found a man who treats her right."

Liana had played out multiple scenarios of how her brother would react to this news.

She expected explosive jealousy, outright denial, or that terrifying, bone-chilling hostility he had shown her before.

She got none of it.

The look in Jorrod's eyes held absolutely nothing.

His gaze was hollow, completely drained, as if something vital had been permanently ripped out of his chest. The warm, amber lighting of the restaurant cascaded over his face, yet it failed to bring a single trace of life to his dark eyes.

It felt terrifyingly wrong.

"I understand. Eat your food," Jorrod finally murmured.

The response was dead calm. Halfway through the meal, Liana sneaked a glance across the table. Jorrod was meticulously slicing his steak, his movements poised and elegant. Under the lighting, the veins on his hand stood out sharply, and just above a faint scratch, she noticed a scattering of tiny, distinct needle marks.

Liana blinked in surprise.

Intravenous marks? When did that happen?

After dinner, Jorrod personally drove his sister home.

Navigating the neon-lit maze of the city, the sleek black car moved like a solitary phantom, instinctively cruising in the direction of Sycamore Grove.

Halfway there, he abruptly let off the gas, the car slowing to a crawl.

The vibrant glow of the busy streets washed over the sharp angles of his jaw, casting deep, shifting shadows across his face. In the interplay of light and dark, his narrowed eyes looked hollowed out and completely devoid of warmth.

He looked like a ghost haunting the driver's seat, entirely disconnected from the bustling, lively city around him.

Jorrod's jaw locked so tightly the muscle ticked, his knuckles turning stark white as they gripped the steering wheel.

So, that was it.

She was moving so she could play house with her new boyfriend.

No wonder she flat-out refused to tell him.
