On the way back, Sienna continuously tried to contact Jorrod, but the calls went unanswered and texts were ignored.
The premonition that something had happened to him grew stronger by the second.
The absolute silence was terrifying.
Taking the elevator up to her door, she pressed her thumb to the biometric lock.
As she walked in and pulled the heavy door shut, her phone screen was already lit up with Silas Lester's contact info.
Suddenly, a hand jammed into the half-closing gap.
The fingers were long and perfectly proportioned, gripping the doorframe. The fair skin on the knuckles was tinged with a cold-induced pink, as if the person had just rushed upstairs from the freezing outdoors.
Forget closing the door.
Sienna froze completely.
She swallowed hard, her neck stiffening, as she inched her gaze up the man's hand in sheer disbelief...
Jorrod's overcoat hung open, revealing a black turtleneck sweater that brushed against his Adam's apple. Unadorned and sharply tailored, a dark brown leather belt cinched his narrow waist, highlighting his long, straight legs encased in black trousers.
He looked down at her, his eyelashes slightly lowered. He wasn't wearing his glasses, and she could clearly see the deep amusement swirling in his narrow eyes, instantly dispelling the biting chill he brought in from outside.
Sienna couldn't process it for a moment.
The two cities were miles apart, the weather was freezing, and it was right in the middle of the holiday rush. Had he really dropped his work and flown all the way here unannounced?
She wanted to say something, opened her mouth, but remained utterly silent.
Jorrod's lips curled up as he pulled the door wide open.
He stepped inside with an overwhelming presence.
Standing right in front of her, Jorrod reached out, his fingertips smoothing a stray strand of hair that she hadn't had time to fix in her panic.
His first words carried a teasing lilt. "Got dizzy, did you?"
That familiar voice laced with laughter brushed against her heart like a feather, instantly snapping her back to reality.
"Wh-wh-why are you here? Wh-what are you doing here?"
Jorrod gave her three words.
