I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 201

He silently vowed to himself, “Don’t worry, Ms. Lynn. Those days will be over soon. In fact, they could be over right now if you’d just let me in. I’d hire the best nannies in Cliffhaven to take care of you and the children. You’d never have to lift a finger again.”

Testing the waters, he asked aloud, “Ms. Lynn, what if the quadruplets’ biological father suddenly showed up? And what if he was incredibly wealthy and wanted to marry you, to give you a life of luxury? Would you accept?”

“Ha! Mr. Bragg, you’re joking with me again,” she said with a laugh, as if he’d just told the funniest joke in the world. This man and his strange hypotheticals. What was the point?

Still, he had asked with such a straight face that she felt she owed him a serious answer. Her smile faded. “Mr. Bragg, even if the children’s father turned out to be a billionaire, and even if I could pretend not to hate him for what he did, I would never, ever marry him.”

“And even if I did,” she continued, her voice firm, “I would never want to be some pampered wife living off his money.”

“I’m determined to be my own person—an independent woman. My dream is to become a successful fashion designer. You understand?”

Jareth’s expression fell, the light in his eyes dimming. He knew it wouldn’t be easy with her. She was not the kind of woman who would ever be content as a beautiful ornament on someone’s arm.

After they finished eating, Niamh insisted on clearing the plates, but Jareth simply ordered her to go and rest. She felt incredibly awkward, sitting on the sofa while her boss cooked for her and then did the dishes.

She just couldn’t figure it out. Why was he being so kind to her all of a sudden?

“Ding-dong.”

The sound of the doorbell snapped her out of her thoughts, and her stomach immediately tightened. *Oh no, what if it’s his girlfriend? She’ll see me here and get the wrong idea. This is going to be a disaster.*

Could it all be for the quadruplets?

“They’re for your kids. Consider it an early birthday present from me,” Jareth said, having come out of the kitchen.

For her quadruplets? All of this must have cost a fortune. Her mind immediately jumped to one conclusion: he was going to add it to her tab and deduct it from her salary. “Mr. Bragg, that’s not fair,” she thought frantically. “My salary is barely enough as it is. If you keep buying them things like this, I’ll be in debt forever!”

As if reading her mind, Jareth added, “And don’t worry, it won’t be coming out of your paycheck. This is on me.”

Seriously, did this man have some kind of mind-reading power? How did he always seem to know exactly what she was thinking?
