I Ran From My Psycho Step-brother Straight Into The Alpha's Lap novel Chapter 135

**When Night Grows Softer Hope Returns To Lead Us by Asa Rowan Finn**
**Chapter 135**

Liam gathered their lunch with a sense of urgency. “I need to step out for a few hours. Where would you like to settle in?” he asked, glancing at Talya with a hint of concern in his eyes.

“I suppose right here is fine,” Talya replied, her voice steady but her thoughts swirling with uncertainty.

He handed her the TV remote, the weight of it seeming to carry more than just buttons—more like a promise of distraction. “Here are the controls for the TV. I’ve got everything you might need.” His gaze lingered on her, as if he were trying to memorize every detail before he left. “I’ll lock the door behind me. Do you need anything before I head out?”

“I’m good; thanks,” she assured him, though she could see the flicker of doubt in his expression. He clearly didn’t want to leave her alone. “Really, I’ll be fine,” she added, hoping to alleviate his worries.

“Just so you know, there are men stationed outside the door for security; you’re safe,” he reassured her, handing over his phone. “I’m leaving this with you. If you need anything, call Garrett. He’ll be with me. Also, I’ll make sure to get you a phone today.”

“Oh, no, you don’t need to do that,” Talya protested, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt.

“See you later,” he said, leaning down to plant a quick kiss on her forehead. Talya watched him go, surprised by the tenderness of the gesture. As he reached the door, he turned back, flashing her a playful wink before disappearing down the hallway, the sound of the door clicking shut echoing in the quiet room.

Barely ten minutes had passed when the phone rang, jolting Talya from her thoughts. She glanced at the screen and saw Garrett’s name. A part of her had hoped it would be Liam. “Hello?” she answered, her heart racing slightly.

“Miss me?” Liam’s voice came through, light and teasing.

Talya couldn’t suppress a laugh, despite the absurdity of the situation. “You haven’t even been gone ten minutes!”

“I know,” he replied, a chuckle in his tone. “But listen, Emma and Madison—Garrett’s wife and Kyle’s wife—are driving me up the wall. They want to come over and meet you. I told them you weren’t feeling up to it, but they’re relentless. They insisted I call and check.”

Talya smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her. “That’s fine. They can come over. Will they be able to get in, or do I need to get up and let them in?”

“The guys will handle it. Don’t you dare get up unless I’m there to help,” Liam ordered, his voice taking on a serious tone.

Talya chuckled again, the sound lightening the mood. “Why did you laugh?” he pressed, a hint of curiosity in his voice.

“Because I’m going to have to learn how to get around without you,” she replied, a playful smirk on her lips.

“No, you’re not,” he countered firmly. “You can’t put weight on that leg. Paul made it very clear.”

“I get that, but I need to figure out how to manage. I can’t just stay here forever—I have to be able to go to the bathroom,” Talya said, rolling her eyes in frustration.

“Talya, if you ever need to get off that couch for any reason, you call me. I can be home in a flash,” Liam insisted, his voice laced with concern.

“Liam, it’s fine. You have work to do. I can handle it,” she reassured him, though his worry was endearing.

“My number one priority is you, Talya. The girls should be there soon. Just let me know if you need anything. I’ll talk to you soon,” he said before hanging up.

Not five minutes later, a knock echoed through the quiet space.

“Come in!” Talya called out, her heart fluttering with anticipation. The door swung open, and two young women, each appearing to be around Talya’s age—perhaps a bit older—stepped inside. Talya blinked, taken aback by their beauty.

The petite redhead stepped forward first, her voice bright and welcoming. “Hi, I’m Emma.”

“I’m Madison,” chimed in the other girl, who had long dark hair and sun-kissed skin.
