**When Night Grows Softer Hope Returns To Lead Us by Asa Rowan Finn**
**Chapter 137**
Talya squinted, overwhelmed by the cacophony surrounding her. Liam’s voice rose above the clamor, filled with a mix of anger and urgency, but she couldn’t quite make out who he was confronting. In the corner, she spotted Madison and Emma, their expressions etched with concern. The sight of Garrett and Max, along with an unfamiliar guy, added to the chaotic scene. The conversations swirled around her like a tempest, and Talya felt a wave of confusion wash over her. It wasn’t until she caught sight of the target of Liam’s ire that her heart sank—Paul, the doctor. Liam appeared ready to explode, and the tension in the air was palpable. Talya had no clue what had ignited this uproar, but she knew she had to regain control, and quickly.
“Liam,” she called out, her voice hoarse and shaky. The moment her words cut through the noise, an eerie silence fell. All eyes turned to her, and she felt a jolt of surprise at the intensity in Liam’s gaze. He was at her side in an instant, concern etched on his face.
“Talya,” he breathed, his voice low and urgent as he tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “Are you alright? What happened?”
Talya frowned, her mind racing. “I just… fell asleep,” she replied, uncertainty creeping into her voice.
“No, you didn’t,” Liam insisted, his tone rough and filled with an underlying desperation. Talya stared at him, bewildered by the intensity of his reaction.
“You fell asleep while we were talking,” Emma interjected softly, stepping closer to Talya. But as she approached, Garrett instinctively wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her protectively to him. “After a while, you started mumbling, and then you began crying out in your sleep. We thought it might be a nightmare. I’ve dealt with nightmares before, and we didn’t want you to suffer through that, so we tried waking you. When we couldn’t, we got worried and called Liam.”
“I couldn’t wake you,” Liam echoed, his voice thick with emotion. “I called Paul, but he couldn’t figure out what was wrong.” Talya could feel the weight of his concern pressing down on her. She reached out, placing her hand on his chest, feeling the rapid thump of his heartbeat beneath her palm. He covered her hand with his, anchoring her in the moment. “Are you okay? Are you in pain?” he asked, his eyes searching hers.
“I… I had another one of my dreams,” she admitted softly, her voice barely above a whisper. “You know, the one with the wolf.” The moment the words escaped her lips, the atmosphere shifted; it was as if she had thrown a stone into a still pond, sending ripples of tension through the room.
“What dream? What wolf?” Garrett’s deep voice rumbled, curiosity piquing despite his earlier anger.
“Garrett, let her be,” Liam snapped, his frustration bubbling to the surface.
“If it involves a wolf, then it involves me,” Garrett countered, standing his ground.
Talya felt a knot tighten in her stomach, unsure of what Garrett meant. She could sense Liam’s muscles tense beneath her hand, a storm brewing within him. The flicker of color in Liam’s eyes warned her of the impending confrontation. “Liam,” she urged, her fingers brushing against his cheek. “Stop.” He closed his eyes, leaning into her touch as he inhaled deeply, seemingly finding a moment of calm.
