Chapter 323 Damian Draws The Line

Lady Flourish POV

The investigation did not stop when we found the footage. If anything, it made me want to move faster

I wanted to return to Stonehedge, get into the old medical district, search every room that still existed, and find out why my childhood had been divided into pieces.

I wanted Garret’s records, the facility files, the names of the doctors, guards, and anyone who had signed an order concerning Amara.

I wanted to know who had carried her out of that room, who had watched me stay behind, and why nobody had ever told me that I had a sister.

The recovered footage had changed everything. It was no longer a question of whether the memory was real. I had seen myself on that screen as a child. I had seen Amara beside me. There had been a time when we shared the same place, the same people, and apparently the same secrets.

“I’m going back tonight.” I said.

Damian looked up from the security footage.

“No.”

I stared at him. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

My female wolf lifted her head. “He is serious.”

I ignored her.

Rhys and Cheryl were still working at the other end of the room. Amara sat with the healer, watching us without speaking.

Damian lowered his voice, but that did nothing to make me less angry.

“Your bloodline reacted twice today,” he said. “You nearly collapsed when you touched Amara’s mark. Then the network map responded to both of you.”

“I recovered.”

“That doesn’t mean you’re fine.” ~T}

“I didn’t say I was fine. I said I’m going.”

He stood.

The movement alone changed the room. His Alpha presence came forward before he seemed to notice it. pressing lightly against my wolf. She bristled.

“I am not stopping the investigation,” he said. “I’m stopping you from walking into another old Stonehedge facility when we don’t know what that bloodline response is doing to you.”

“The mark reacted to me because it recognized me.”

“Maybe. Or maybe it reacted because your blood is changing.”

“My wolf can tell when something is wrong.”

“So can mine.”

That answer irritated me more than it should have.

“And you think keeping me here will fix that?”

“No. I think pushing until you collapse again won’t fix it either.”

I stepped closer.

“This is my history. My family. My sister. You don’t get to decide when I am allowed to face it.”

His eyes hardened.

“And you don’t get to decide that being willing to hurt yourself is the same thing as being strong.”

That stopped me.

For a second, neither of us spoke.

Then anger rose again.

“You always do this.”

“Do what?”

“Turn concern into permission. You decide where I go, who stays with me, how much I should know, when I should rest. You call it protection, but sometimes it feels like control.”

The words came out sharper than I intended.

Damian looked away.

I expected an argument. Instead, he walked toward the window and stood there, hands resting on the back of a chair.

My wolf watched him.

“He is hurt.”

“So am I.”

He remained silent for several seconds.

When he finally turned, the anger was gone from his face.

“I am scared.”
