“Come on, I’ll give you a ride.” Jace said, displeased, bending to help me with my helmet.

His movement paused. He saw the pink pup’s helmet under mine.

Jace’s nose twitched, and his eyes welled up. This was the birthday gift he’d prepared for Aurora.

His training had made him miss her birthday. He couldn’t take time off, so he’d had this helmet custom-made. He planned to go for a ride with Aurora after her surgery. But there would be no more ride.

‘Aurora would have been very happy with this gift.” I gently patted his shoulder, offering comfort.

Aurora’s death had devastated me. But I wouldn’t allow myself to be lost in sadness forever.

Aurora wouldn’t want to see me like this.
