“Lucian, stop!” I was so anxious, I scrambled to my feet. Before he could act, I grabbed his arm, crying, “Don’t hurt Jace’s hand. You can never hurt his hands! They are important to him!”

Looking at my worried face, Lucian sneered, “Jace’s hands are important. What about Ayla’s?”

That explained it. I finally understood why Lucian was here. He still believed I’d intentionally burned Ayla’s hands, and he was seeking revenge

for her.

I decided to compromise. As long as he could leave me, it did matter that I admitted a mistake that I had never made.

“Sorry, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have hurt Ayla. Please let go of Jace, and I’ll apologize to her.”

“Seren, why are you taking the blame for something you didn’t do? I won’t let you apologize to that bitch.”
