Chapter 42

“Hmm.”

Lucian responded with a low sound.

He started the car and drove back to the ceremony venue.

On the way there, Lucian was obviously ticked off.

Ayla took a deep breath and said, “Lucian, I get it. Seren probably didn’t want me up there with you, so she brought up Aurora’s passing toget you to leave.”

“That’s no reason for her to lie to me, especially since she went as far as wishing Aurora would die.”

Lucian’s voice became colder. Ayla’s words reminded him of the dressing room incident. He had almost believed Seren’s lies.

“She really didn’t have any other option; she had to use Aurora to put pressure on you.”

Ayla spoke carefully.

“I won’t believe her lies anymore. Let’s not talk about her again.”

Lucian said with a stern expression.

“Okay, I’ll stop talking about her. Just don’t be mad, okay?”

Ayla comforted him, her expression showing a sense of resignation.

Ravenswood Apartments.

Overcome with sorrow, I answered a call from Orion.

“Seren, I understand you’re upset, but you really shouldn’t act on impulse. Please hurry back to the ceremony venue.”

Orion thought I was upset because I didn’t get the first prize.

‘Mr. Vale, I’m on my way back now.”

After hanging up, I composed myself and hurried back to the venue.

In the parking lot, I encountered Lucian and Ayla.

Lucian gazed at me with a piercing coldness.

I didn’t look at him. My eyes were fixed on Ayla, who was in Lucian’s arms.

She asked coldly, ‘Ayla, did you really see Aurora?”

Ayla’s eyes flickered briefly.

But she quickly regained her composure.

She said firmly, “Yes, I did.”

Then, pretending to be the victim, she asked, “Seren, are you implying that I lied to Lucian?”

‘Yes.’

My voice was confrontational.

Ayla, visibly agitated and quick to defend herself, yelled, ‘I didn’t lie!”

Her eyes reddened as she played the victim. She turned to Lucian and said in a tone of feigned innocence, “Lucian, you have to believe me. I didn’t lie. I really saw Aurora.”

‘I believe you.”

Lucian said in a serious tone.

His words made me look even colder. He took Ayla’s side again. Whatever Ayla said, Lucian always believed her.
