Chapter 45
I and Ragnar stood side by side, looking like a perfectly matched pair.
The backstage buzzed with renewed excitement.
Everyone discussed the rare presence of Lucian and Ragnar.
Clearly, Lucian was here for Ayla.
Was Ragnar there for me?
Lucian overheard the chatter, catching sight of my smile at Ragnar and he also noticed Ragnar’s attention on me. His expression instantly darkened.
On stage, the host proceeded with the event.
“One more piece of breaking news. Let’s welcome the Chief Designer of Apex Design Collective, Olivia, to give the award to our third-place winner, Ms. Nyx Duskwalker.”
Eleanor walked onto the stage and handed the award to Nyx.
After the ceremony.
Eleanor turned to Ayla.”Welcome to Apex Design Collective.”
Ayla promptly shook Eleanor’s hand, relishing this moment of distinction.
“Ms. Whitnore, I am truly honored to join Apex Design as an intern designer with you as my mentor. I have so much to learn from you.”
Winning first place in this competition not only secured a prize of 150 thousand silver coins but, more importantly for Ayla, it meant she could intern at Apex Design under Eleanor’s mentorship.
Eleanor’s mentor was Charlotte Delacroix.
Charlotte founded Apex Design Collective and was a renowned genius designer worldwide.
Her designs were highly sought after by numerous affluent ladies and socialites.
Charlotte boasted connections in the military, politics, business, and even extended to foreign royalty.
Having Charlotte’s approval was a big deal because it meant an access to her huge and powerful network of contacts.
Being Eleanor’s apprentice made this even better, as it let Ayla connect with important people in lots of different areas.
These connections were exactly what Lucian’s father cared about.
“You’ve got a solid design there. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you can bring us. I hope you will have a wonderful life here.”
Eleanor glanced at Lucian and politely encouraged Ayla.
Ayla beamed with excitement.”Thanks a lot, Ms. Whitnore. I will do my best with my design.”
It didn’t matter one bit that I was more talented than her.
And also, no one cared if my designs were better than hers.
Ayla was the one who won first place!
And she was the one who would be working at Apex Design Collective! That was my dream.
