I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 34

Sienna held her water cup, watching his silhouette disappear down the corridor.

She took a slow sip.

Turning around, she nearly collided with someone. The cup jerked, splashing water over her knuckles.

Taking a half-step back, she looked up.

Zachary Vance stood right in front of her.

She had almost completely forgotten about this guy.

Zachary stood there, wearing a navy polo under his lab coat with the collar popped. His hair was meticulously styled, making him look perfectly polished yet entirely too rigid.

She gave a curt nod in greeting and sidestepped to leave.

"I knew it," Zachary sneered, his voice low but sharp enough to slice through the air. "I wondered why you'd reject me for no reason. Turns out you're just hunting for bigger prey."

Sienna slowly turned back, staring at him in sheer disbelief.

Zachary smirked.

His expression dripped with contempt and smug triumph, as if he had just cracked a major conspiracy.

"It all makes sense now."

He dragged out the words, relishing his own bitterness.

"Looking for a rich upgrade," he mocked, leaning in with blatant arrogance. "Careful. The higher you climb, the harder you fall. Especially with your background..."

He paused, dragging his eyes up and down her frame.

His gaze felt like a slimy measuring tape, sizing her up from head to toe and back again.

"You should stick to guys on my level."

Sienna's grip on her cup tightened.

"A guy from Director Holloway's background?" Zachary shoved his hands into his pockets, sounding like he was lecturing a foolish child. "You think you can land him? I get that you're desperate to climb the social ladder, but..."

He sneered, a nasty smile playing on his lips.

"You need to know your place."

"I'll admit you're gorgeous, but there's no shortage of pretty faces. You're not getting any younger. If you didn't manage to secure a wealthy ring in your twenties, it's certainly not happening now. Do yourself a favor and give it up."

The hallway plunged into a dead silence.

A nearby nurse kept her head down, pretending to type while her fingers hovered uselessly over the keyboard.
