I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 36

He had believed that if a relationship was doomed to fail, it shouldn't even start.

But eventually, they crossed that line anyway.

Isaac shot him a curious glance, pressing for details.

"She what?"

Finn looked over at Isaac, a smile on his lips that didn't reach his eyes.

"Are you that interested in her?"

Isaac shrugged openly.

"A woman that fascinating? I'd be crazy not to be."

Finn's gaze drifted back down the empty hallway.

Sienna was long gone, but he stared as if she were still standing right in front of him.

"During my first year, I was training in Sterling City. I flew non-stop for two weeks and wrecked my stomach. I didn't tell her, but she found out somehow. She sat on a miserable train for thirty-six hours just to see me. She showed up at my dorm late at night. It was below freezing—the coldest night of the year—and she waited outside for forty minutes, just to catch a glimpse of me."

His voice grew heavy with emotion.

"When I ran down, she was huddled on the ground, hugging her knees. Her face was flushed from the cold, but when she saw me, her entire face lit up. I'll never forget that smile for as long as I live.

"She had an insulated bag with a hot bowl of soup inside. Despite waiting in the freezing wind, it was still piping hot. I realized she had been huddled over it to keep it warm with her own body heat. Can you believe that?

"She handed it to me and said she'd leave right after I ate so she wouldn't ruin my schedule. I tried to pull her upstairs, but she refused, saying the RA told her no girls were allowed. I told her I didn't care, but she shook her head and said, 'You're a cadet, I can't get you in trouble.'"

He paused, needing a second to steady his voice.

"She only stayed for twenty minutes. I had more training and wanted to call in sick, but she wouldn't let me. She was terrified of holding me back.

"I found out later she took the same miserable train back. Thirty-six hours each way. The day after she returned was her med school entrance exam. She had studied the entire ride, arrived at dawn, and dragged herself to the testing center by six a.m.

His voice dropped to a barely audible whisper.

"Despite all that, she passed. And she absolutely crushed it."

He turned his head, locking eyes with Isaac.
