Under the streetlamp, Sienna stared down at the ID card.
The man in the photo wore a dark suit, his expression severe.
Silas Hayes.
A man countless people in the capital would kill to be associated with.
Yet here he was, pressing his ID into her palm.
Telling her he wanted to marry her.
If this had happened a month ago, she genuinely would have been moved.
But after everything she had been through recently, her desperate fixation on marriage and building a family had begun to crumble.
Finn stood just a few feet away.
His eyes tracked down to the card gripped in her fingers.
His Adam's apple bobbed.
He had an overwhelming urge to step forward, snatch that ID, and hurl it right back at Silas's chest.
But he did nothing.
His hands stayed buried in his pockets, his fists clenching and unclenching to ease his tension.
Finn reminded himself that whatever Sienna decided, he would respect and accept it.
He stood there quietly, like a mountain waiting patiently for the wind to choose its own direction.
Sienna pinched the edge of the card and looked up.
"I don't want it."
"What?" Silas thought he had misheard her.
"I said, I don't want it. I'm not marrying you. Here." Sienna held the ID back out to him.
Silas didn't take it. He just stared at her.
"Do you even realize what you're saying?"
"I do." She met his gaze, her eyes turning glacial. "Not everyone is going to fall to their knees in gratitude and agree to marry you."
"Mr. Hayes, your charity comes across as incredibly arrogant. I have every right to refuse it."
With that, she didn't even wait for Silas to take the card back.
She simply dropped his ID onto the concrete steps beside her.
Silas watched her actions, his expression unchanging, but the line of his jaw pulled dangerously tight.
"Don't regret this."
Sienna turned and walked away, never looking back.
She had just opened her book when a knock sounded at the front door.
She pulled it open.
Finn stood in the hallway, his hair slightly damp.
"The shower in my bathroom is broken. Can I borrow yours?"
"No. It's not like this is your only property. Drive back to your penthouse and shower there."
Finn leaned against the doorframe, one hand casually slipped into his pocket.
"It's too late. If you kick me out, where am I supposed to go?"
His handsome face twisted into a look of exaggerated pure grievance.
"We've known each other for so long, and you won't even let me borrow your bathroom?"
Too exhausted to argue with him, Sienna stepped aside.
"Shower quickly and get out."
As he stepped inside, she was about to head back to her room when something clicked.
"Wait—don't go in yet. Let me clean up a bit."
She darted into the bathroom, quickly sweeping up her personal items, and pulled the door shut behind her.
