I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 585

At 7:50 PM, Sienna was already sitting in the living room. Her phone rested on the coffee table, the screen glowing brightly.

The sky outside had turned completely dark, and she had turned all the living room lights up to their maximum brightness.

At 7:59 PM, her phone screen lit up.

She answered it. The receiver was silent for a moment before a voice she had waited a whole month to hear finally came through.

"Sienna."

Hearing that voice, Sienna could no longer hold back her tears; they spilled down her cheeks.

She could hear the hoarseness in Finn's voice.

Her heart ached terribly for him.

She guessed he hadn't had a proper rest in a very long time.

Sienna gripped her phone, a lump forming in her throat. It took her several seconds to pull her emotions together, trying her hardest not to let Finn hear the strain in her voice.

"How are you?"

"I'm doing well. You don't need to worry," Finn said. "This mission is incredibly meaningful. I'll tell you all about it when I get back. All I can say is, getting to do something like this even once in a lifetime makes it all worth it."

Sienna could hear the irrepressible excitement in Finn's tone, the kind of energy he only had when he was doing something he truly loved.

She didn't interrupt him, listening quietly until he was finished, and then asked one question.

"When will you be able to come home?"

The other end of the line went silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was softer.

"Sienna, I'm sorry. The wedding is going to have to be pushed back."

Sienna was completely calm.

"Okay."

There were no tantrums, no accusations.

Just one word.

"Sienna." Finn didn't know what else to say.

His guilt and apologies were entirely genuine.

But in that moment, words felt hopelessly inadequate.
