I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 379

Finn pressed the back of his hand to her forehead.

She stiffened in response.

Finn frowned and leaned over, ready to scoop her into his arms.

"I'm taking you to the hospital."

She raised a hand to stop him and pointed across the room.

"There are fever reducers in the cabinet under the TV."

Finn set her down gently and immediately got up to fetch them.

He carefully fed her the medication.

A small blanket was draped over her. It was sweltering, and she struggled against it.

Finn pinned the blanket down.

"Sweat it out."

Sienna stopped fighting him.

She lay on the sofa, bundled up by Finn until she resembled a tightly wrapped burrito.

He sat on the rug, leaning against the couch, keeping a respectful distance.

He didn't speak, simply sitting there as if terrified she might be scared to endure the fever alone, keeping a silent vigil.

After resting for a while, Sienna opened her eyes, turning her head to see him sitting there.

He wasn't scrolling through his phone or doing anything else; he was just sitting.

From this angle, his facial features were striking, his eyelashes dark and thick—utterly captivating.

She watched him for a few seconds before speaking, her voice slightly raspy.

"Finn."

"Yeah," Finn immediately looked back.

"I know why you're treating me so well." She turned her head back, staring at the ceiling. "But let me make it perfectly clear—I can't give you anything in return. There will never be an 'us'."

He remained silent.

Only after a long pause did his low voice fill the quiet room.

"I know. I never expected anything in return."

"Nobody does something for nothing." She closed her eyes. "Stop lying to yourself."

She put on her headphones and cranked up the music.

But the drilling bored straight through the audio, drilling directly into her skull, as if someone were hammering a nail into her temples.

Her heart pounded against her ribs under the relentless buzzing, her fingers tightening their grip on the pen.

It was the upstairs neighbors renovating, well within legal construction hours.

She couldn't file a complaint, couldn't stop them; she just had to endure it.

Sienna sat at her desk for a few moments, and upon realizing the noise wasn't going to cease, she closed her book, stood up, and started packing her bag.

A specific place came to mind.

Serenity Books.

When Sienna arrived, the young girl at the front desk glanced up, immediately shooting to her feet with an eager smile.

"Boss! You're here."

Sienna paused, suddenly remembering that when Paxton transferred the bookstore to her name, the entire staff had been informed she was the new owner.

She hadn't visited in ages, nor had she ever utilized a single resource here.
