Asking no questions, she retreated to the corner and made herself as small as possible in the chair.
"Next. EKG."
Finn smoothly lay back on the exam bed, pulling his sweater and shirt up.
His sculpted abdomen was exposed.
Sienna's eyes snapped away as if she had just touched a hot stove.
The defined lines were still there, somehow even more chiseled than she remembered.
She remembered the exact feeling of running her fingers over them.
"Penny, attach the electrodes."
Penny blinked.
Why was she still doing the hands-on work?
She grabbed the pads and stepped forward, but before she could even reach out, Finn sat right up.
He locked eyes with Sienna.
"Dr. Sterling. You just stated this was your duty. You cannot pawn everything off on your staff."
His tone wasn't harsh, but he had her completely boxed in.
An EKG required a physician's direct execution. She had no excuse.
A tremor flashed through Sienna's eyes.
She bit her tongue, brutally shoving down the overwhelming wave of panic.
There was no escaping this.
"Fine," she gritted out.
Finn lay back down.
Sienna placed the electrodes onto his skin. As her fingertips pressed against his chest, she could feel his heartbeat.
Steady and strong, thumping against the muscle.
It aggressively dragged up memories of sleeping in his arms, resting her head exactly where her hand was now...
Her fingers betrayed her, trembling uncontrollably as her own heart raced in agonizing time with his.
She bit her lip hard, violently forcing herself to focus.
After securing all six leads, she stepped back to the machine and hit the button.
With her back to him, she finally had a second to steady her breathing.
The machine buzzed, spitting out a strip of paper.
Sienna analyzed it, her brow furrowing slightly.
She walked back over and dropped the readout onto the desk.
"Mr. Fletcher, the EKG shows occasional premature ventricular contractions."
Finn sat up and glanced at the paper.
