"Sienna."
Both of them froze instantly.
Maeve walked over from the other side of the garden, stepping right up to them with a perfectly normal expression.
"I just discussed this with your father. Next May is a great time for a wedding. Since you've decided to get married, sooner is better than later. We'd like to invite your parents to Metropolis so the families can officially meet and go over all the proper traditions."
Sienna hadn't fully processed it, so Finn answered for her.
"Understood. We'll consider it."
On the drive back to The Belvedere, Sienna leaned against the window, barely speaking.
It wasn't that she didn't want her parents to come; she was terrified that once Lydia Cross arrived, the situation would completely spiral out of her control.
But what had to happen, would happen.
A week later.
Sienna picked her parents up at the high-speed rail station.
Lydia was wearing a brand-new dark red coat, her hair freshly permed into tight curls, clutching a handbag that looked noticeably expensive.
George Sterling trailed behind her, his back slightly hunched, carrying a bulging woven duffel bag, silent as usual.
The moment Lydia saw Sienna, her eyes darted to her daughter's face before rapidly sliding down to the ring on her finger. She stared at it for a long moment before looking away.
"Why are you wearing the ring already? We haven't even negotiated the marriage settlement yet. What's the rush?"
"Mom, stop talking nonsense," Sienna said, taking the suitcase from her mother's hand.
Lydia glared at her.
"You're thirty now, so you finally know how to panic? What were you doing all this time? I don't even want to nag you anymore. That wealthy businessman from before was so generous, and you just had to break up with him. Let's see what kind of background this new guy has."
Finn stood by the car, opening the door for them with flawless manners.
"Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Cross, you must be tired from the trip. Please, get in."
George followed behind, glancing at Finn a few extra times.
Seeing Finn's striking appearance and refined demeanor, Lydia was visibly caught off guard.
