I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 276

Nathaniel held his teacup, taking a slow sip as if carefully digesting Parrish's monologue.

Then, an amused smile broke across his face. "You certainly worry a lot on my behalf, Mr. York. But your words just reminded me of something."

Nathaniel unhurriedly set his cup down. "I recall hearing a rumor that when you were nearly killed all those years ago, it wasn't Dr. Miller who actually pulled you from the wreckage. Dr. Miller merely helped you recover your memories. Given how lavishly you spoil Dr. Miller, I can only assume the person who truly saved your life is living like absolute royalty right now?"

The question hit like a sledgehammer.

Because the person who had truly saved him wasn't living like royalty—she was actively being hunted and sabotaged by him at every turn.

Parrish's face tightened drastically. After a tense silence, he forced out, "She will be. The day will come when she lacks for nothing."

Nathaniel arched a brow. "Oh? So she isn't right now."

Parrish pressed his lips into a thin, furious line.

Nathaniel's tone chilled. "Then your method of repaying a life debt is certainly... unique. When someone saves your life, you are supposed to honor it. Be careful you don't turn into a thankless viper, or the snake in the farmer's story. It would be a shame to taint that expensive suit of yours with such ugly behavior."

The rage boiling in Parrish's chest was nearly impossible to contain. He had come here to expose Bonnie's true nature and stop Nathaniel from backing her credential review.

Instead, in just a few sentences, Nathaniel had verbally flayed him alive.

Parrish forced a strained smile. "You misunderstand, Master Thorne. I have never forgotten my life debt."

"Glad to hear it." Nathaniel picked up his tea again. "My home is quite small. I won't keep you two any longer."

The dismissal was absolute.

Parrish gave a curt nod. "We'll visit another time."

Seraphina quickly mirrored him. "Farewell, Master Thorne."

Nathaniel didn't even look up, offering a dismissive, "Mhm."

It wasn't until their footsteps completely faded into the distance that Bonnie slowly relaxed her hands behind the screen. Her fists had been clenched so tightly her knuckles had turned white, leaving crescent-shaped marks in her palms.

...

Stepping out of Thorne Manor, a suffocating wave of anger still crushed Parrish's chest.

He had fully expected someone of Nathaniel's status to heed his warning and immediately cut ties with Bonnie.

Instead, the old man hadn't just ignored him—he had surgically attacked his deepest insecurities.
